My son very much wants to be a professional photographer but at the same time he also has a desire to teach English Literature. He is a senior in high school this year. We are a little concerned with him going to an Art and Design school and would feel better with him having something to fall back on. Does anyone know anything about schools where he might could get both the Photography and the English? I had been told that Montana State has a good Photography program

I think many mid-size universities would be fine. You probably want a school with an art department, rather than an art school. You are more likely to be able to double major there. You might be forced to take some basic studio courses before taking photography - especially if it were an official major or minor.

I understand that Ohio State has a good photography program as well.

Add University of New Mexico to the list. Very strong, nationally recognized photography department.

And since you mentioned MSU–I’ll mention that UNM participates in WICHE.

Our resident state is Alabama

Bard College is reputed to be strong in both areas.
