Yikes! Now that would have been awful!!
We are staying in Staunton! Couldn’t see the sign at the entrance to I-64 because of the fog! We once stayed at Big Mountain in the park and got there after dark, in the fog. Scariest drive of my life.

Wow! Yes, it’s a bad area for fog. I always remark to H when there’s a permanent flashing light sign on I64 warning you of fog, you knows it’s common.
We go out there every spring and then in mid-October for the leaves (but we do that on a weekday to avoid the crowds!). It’s only 2 hrs and minor change for us to drive there.

Yes, we’re also about 2.5 hours from Front Royal, VA (Northern most entrance to SNP), on a good traffic day. We don’t head over as often though. Definitely better to plan for the weekdays in the fall when the leaves change. Maybe this year we will go out for that spectacular show.

Not as dramatic as @Tigerwife92 ’s photos, but we got to witness the northern lights above our house! That’s a first for us, too… and the weather cooperated.

What was interesting to me was how the lights changed over a few hours. This was in our backyard. So cool.

Beautiful, there isn’t much light pollution out here. I took them on night mode on my Samsung. I may try to use our camera tonight to see if I can pick up the milky way as well; we’re going to go out on the boat to get away from the trees. There were so many stars visible last night. My parents went to Alaska last year to see them and didn’t see them at all; my dad was so disappointed. Im so glad they got to experience it last night.

Beautiful day (at last) at Mission Beach. And a fantastic kite! The operator was kind enough to notice people taking photos and stage his kite in the background.
