I have a .bmp file at around 500x500 pixels and wish to resize it to around 215x215 pixels, but the image gets somewhat distorted after resizing (e.g. 2 lines that are the same size at 500x500 would look different sizes at 215x215). It looks relatively better if I halve it (i.e. 250x250) or quarter it (i.e. 125x125) but resizing to any number that is not a factor of 500 leads to the aforementioned issue. I have tried using all 3 resampling methods, and bicubic works the best but still does not prevent the issue. Also, there doesn’t seem to be any difference in whether it is a .bmp, .jpg, etc. I am using RBG Color Mode. Thanks for any help.

Have you tried changing the resolution as you lower the pixels to make the filesize the same in the end? That’s my only good suggestion for you. You could also try to first convert it to .psd, .pdf, .png, or .tif (I don’t know which ones you’ve tried). I’ve often found that the .png format works well for smaller files.

If those all fail, you could try using a different program, but something tells me that you’ve probably tried that too.

If you figure it out, let us know. I’m interested to see what the problem is.

If the image has perfect lines, you’ll have this problem. Is it a photograph or from a computer?

Oh, there’s one thing I forgot. You can try just saving it anyway, and then preview it another program after you save. Sometimes Photoshop just makes things look distorted, though it’s generally not that bad.
