She’s deadwrong though. The number of sex partners hasn’t changed in many decades.
She can “think” whatever she wants (and I use that term loosely), but she’s way off.
But who needs facts when you have talking points and people willing to listen
ETA:
LOL really? Most “girls” don’t like the fact that they now have an equal shot at an education?
What planet does this woman live on?
Her “own words” make her sound WAYYYY nuttier than the Salon piece IMO
No, that’s not what she said either. She said most girls don’t like the fact that they are competing for the 10-percent of the males worth dating because the male population on college campuses is shrinking. That’s what she said. It’s not all that controversial unless you want to make it sound that way, somehow. Making it about sexual assault is a crazy reach, though.
And because students can take out loans it gives them too much time to have fun and party instead of working while in school like she did?? What did she do- fill the oil lanterns so they could see at night?
Yes, I know what she said Marie. And she’s pulling it out of her you-know-what. It’s complete rubbish and makes no sense if you critically think about it for 5 seconds.
Only 10% of men are dateable? Let’s put on our thinking caps and think this through…
“Out of that 40 percent male population, there are maybe 20 percent we would consider dating, and out of those 20 percent, 10 have girlfriends, so all the girls are fighting over that other 10 percent.”
That is a quote from a female student. I know at my daughters high school that would be a large percentage of datable guys. She pretty much passed but did find one at college although he was a recent grad who continued to hang around and she was a Freshman. In her class pickings are pretty slim, to be honest.
And the goal of going to college is to find a guy to date? Wow, that is a pretty expensive way to find a man. No wonder girls today are so disappointed that they have slim pickings.
@Bay but there is a distinct difference between partying and sexually assaulting/raping people. The thought process for college-bound girls shouldn’t (have to) be ‘If I get a job while at school, then I bet I won’t be sexually assaulted!’ It should be ‘I shouldn’t have to worry about my safety this much’
Gee, does that mean our sons who didn’t have women fighting over them are part of the icky 20%? Will have to look at S in a new light, since he didn’t mention women fighting over him.
I remember reading an article in my young 20’s (millennia ago) that said the average sexually active American woman had had 12 partners. Somehow that number has stuck in my mind. Is there a current estimate?
I understand the argument that more women than men on campus means that men might have the upper hand in relationships, and women might agree to kinds of relationships that they do not prefer. But I don’t understand what that has to do with “sex scandals.” What sex scandals are we talking about here? What do these scandals have to do with female majorities on campus?
Her whole premise is ridiculous. When I went to school, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, my school had just gone co-ed a few years before and was still largely female. None of the nonsense she spews was true.
She has had an agenda for years. She didn’t exactly lead her own life according to what she was pushing on others but
was basically a do as I say, not as I do person. She is going to make statements that support her agenda.
I don’t take seriously anything she says. Never did.
Agree that she sounds wackier the farther down you read in her column. If Title IX were eliminated and all those men’s college sports reinstated, there would be so many guys flocking to colleges to be on the wrestling teams that the gender balance would shift even perceptibly? Guys are doing the cost benefit and realizing that they’re better off NOT going to college and competing agains all the H-1B visa holding software engineers so they go straight into the workforce to compete against the Russian tile guys and Mexican dry wallers? Would those guys have bolstered the “dateable” pool had they gone to college? Just wow!
Re #31: I wish Schafly had been more descriptive about what “sex scandals” she was referring to. She might have been referring to the UVA case, because UVA has a gender imbalance and the latest revelations indicate that Jackie may have invented Drew and the attack in order to attract the attention of another guy she was besotted with. This fits Schafly’s theory I guess.
She apparently hasn’t been mentally sharp for decades. A classmate posted the link to her article on his facebook page. The responses are most entertaining.
“The median number of lifetime female sexual partners for men was seven; the median number of male partners for women was four.”
I was thinking that the number should be the same for men and women, but I guess they are different because there is more skew and kurtosis to the women’s distribution so the median is lower.
