Phys Ed classes requirement

I’m considering taking PE 1210 NYS Emergency Medical Technician-Basic. Since it’s a two-semester course, that means that it will fulfill the phys ed requirement, right? I’m a bit confused whether I need to take two different courses to fulfill the requirement. Do we earn credits for phys ed classes? The courses of study book doesn’t list the value of credits for phys ed classes, so I’m assuming they aren’t assigned numerical credit values? If you’ve taken PE 1210 I’d really appreciate any comments on your experience. The courses of study book describes it as being an “intensive 130-hour course.” I figured it would be good for someone like me who wants to do premed, but at the same time I don’t want to make the mistake of taking an unnecessary course that is only going to bog me down with even more work.

I believe you can take the EMT course for either Pe or academic credit. PE courses are normally 1 credit each and don’t really count towards graduation or anything. So, your options are to take the EMT course for PE credit or take the EMT course for academic credit and then take two other PE courses.

Edit: Yep. 6 academic credits or 2 PE credits. Lecture and lab are 9 hours a week, dude. Not the way I’d want to begin my freshman year. If I were you, I’d just take the course over the summer. It’ll be cheaper too.

From what I hear, EMT is a real pain (and not really worth it if you’re pre-med).
