Physical Education?

Does JHU offer elective classes in Phys Ed or something similar? For credit or not? Tennis, golf, etc. etc.

Thanks.

I don’t think there are classes, but you can always join a club and play club sports. (Think of it as a non-for-credit class  )

There is however a workout center and a lot of the non-freshman dorms have work out rooms. There are tennis courts too.

Oh and then there is this, classes that are for credit and may resemble PE. <a href=“Registrar - Homewood Schools (KSAS & WSE) | Office of the Registrar | Johns Hopkins University”>Registrar - Homewood Schools (KSAS & WSE) | Office of the Registrar | Johns Hopkins University; (ROTC related I believe.)

Thanks, scorp.

jmmom - I asked around and no one knows of any Physical Education classes offered for credit, outside of the ROTC classes that “scorp” linked to.

There are however, many opportunities to be physically involved outside of the classroom. Options include:

*Division I sports (M & W LAX)
*Division III sports (24 different sports)

*Club Sports (20+ options)

*Intramural Sports (10+ options)

*Experiential Education opportunities such as Outdoor Pursuits, Climbing Wall, Pre-O, Outdoor Leadership, etc.

*Aquatics Program

*Various Fitness Classes

All in all, a lot to do to avoid the Freshman 15.

There are also intersession classes (enrichment, not credit granting) in things like ballroom dancing and tai chi, so you can do physical things then if you’d like, as well.

Also, you can register for classes at nearby schools. For example, Goucher college has a range of PE classes, and Hopkins kids can register for them. (I’m not EXACTLY positive about the credit situation regarding Goucher specifically, because I think they consider PE classes to be non-credit, but that would be something you’d work out with the Hopkins registrar). One fun class I’m considering for my senior year? Horseback Riding!

There are probably PE classes at a lot of those schools- I know Towson has an entire kinesiology department.

Thanks, shelly. That’s a great alternative.
