physical education

hi guys,
i’m a new grad student at harvard (i’m officially starting next monday), and i was wondering about PE classes, which I can’t find any info on (i only found these lame group exercise classes on the website). Specifically, I want to take soccer and tennis classes, this summer and throughout the year. Does anybody have any information on this?
thanks!

i currently go here during the summer so… here is the IM schedule

sunday:

6-8 Soccer All (cumnock)
8-10 softball (jordan)

Monday
5-7 Ultimate frisbee (webster)

Tuesday
5-7 soccer (For the Secondary Students only) NOT US
6:30-8:30 volleyball (MAC)

Weds
6:30-8:30 womens basketball(MAC)

Thursday
6:30-8:30 Men’s Basketball (MAC)

Friday
4-6 Soccer Everyone (MAC)

and i’m pretty sure the MAC is open during the weekdays, but check athletic facilities site to confirm the dates

I am pretty sure that they don’t hold formal PE classes during the summer so your out of luck… you have to wait until the fall semester starts which is august 28th i believe. Your only choice is to join intramural sports during the summer

MAC is closed on Fridays?

i guess… it looks like the schedule is M-R noon to 9pm. But it should change during the regular school year. Summer schedule is screwed up.

cool, just kinda weird there’s soccer at MAC on Fridays then. so you’re in eliot? how’s that going? do the summer students do anything fun cause i don’t know anybody yet

i live in kirkland, so far the summer semester has been okay. If you’re a fairly young grad student i suggest you going to annenberg for food so as to meet people. Surprisingly besides class i haven’t found much to do, but it would be different if i were of legal age to do stuff. Go by the redline at night, it’s pretty lively there and you’ll be able to meet people very easily

hey sweet thanks. are you sure the soccer is on Sunday @ Cumnock? cause I went today (Saturday) and there were a bunch of summer school students there. I’ll go again tomorrow if there’s a game on, but just want to make sure.

thats what my sheet says. so yep

Redline is a terrible bar!

Better places include… Shays + Grendel’s Den (both on JFK). Daedalus (on Mt. Auburn). Grafton St. and, hell, even the Hong Kong (2nd or 3rd floor) are better!

As a grad student, you should have access to Dudley House. I know in the past it’s been shared by grad students and undergrads doing research (as part of the PRISE program) - it might be a good place to meet people.

Also, I know the life science folks play a lot of beach volleyball out by biolabs (and I think they have friday afternoon happy hours!). Definitely something you could try to crash, especially if that’s your field.
