I’m trying to study for physics 1 over the summer, since I plan to take AP physics next year, and I’ve never taken a physics course before. I know there are a lot of online materials I can use, but I prefer books to online study guides. Is there any recommendation of books/textbooks I can use? Would SAT II physics be too hard… for a first time physics student?

Which AP Physics are you taking? B or C?

I’ll be taking physics C

SAT II Physics is definitely closer to Physics B in terms of content, so if you wanted to take that exam you would have to do a lot of studying outside of class. Physics B covers several topics (without calculus), but Physics C covers a few topics in great depth (with calculus). For my Physics C class next year, we are using the Fundamentals of Physics book. I went through the first few chapters of it for our summer homework and I thought it was very well written. If you read through this, you will see what you need to know for Physics C:

For the SAT II, if you still plan on taking it, you would have to learn a lot that isn’t covered in the Physics C curriculum. I took the Physics SAT II by studying for the AP Physics B exam with my Princeton Review book and using the Sparknotes online guide to learn any material that would be tested on the SAT II that would not be on the AP exam.
