Physics 2213 (Electricity&Magnetism) textbook

Do we have to buy vol 1 AND 2 of University Physics (Young) if we get credits for Physics 1112, and just want to move on to 2213? Can we simply buy vol 2 of University Physics?

Thanks for your help! =)

Officially, you are supposed to, because Phys 2213 does use SOME of Volume 1. However, the course is centered almost entirely on Volume 2. Maybe to save some money, just borrow Volume 1 from the library / your friend at first (it spends only like 2-3 weeks on Volume 1).

I took it a couple of years ago, and we used volume 1 for literally like 3 weeks on thermo. I would also suggest just borrowing from the library for those 3 weeks if you’re strapped for cash. The only time it might suck is if you’re studying for prelims or finals.

thx a lot for the input!!!

You can borrow the first book from the library or just buy a used textbook, return it after a week ,and buy it again, etc. You really only need it for the homework problems so you could also just scan/copy the ones you need and then return.

Remember to keep volume 2 if you are planning to take 2214 at any point.
