Does anyone know how many physics majors get accepted every year and is there anyone that got accepted by Columbia for the Class of 2016 that is majoring in physics and is planning on rejecting the offer, has already done so, or might do it.

bump
No one has even responded

They don’t really admit by major but the problem is that Columbia’s core does not really encourage hard science so many becomes social scientists by graduation so if you are dead set on becoming a physicist I would not prioritize this

well, here’s one :)

dunkmaster and md physics, well done on your Columbia offer for Physics major.

Do you plan to accept the offer? What do you think about the core curriculum for aspiring Physicists?

Although I have to admit that scientists may not like the Core, I feel that it doesn’t necessarily “discourage” one from pursuing, say, physics. Whatever major you wish to study, I believe that having a well-rounded education is essential, especially during undergrad. That may sound cliche, but remember that this is the only time for you to get to know different disciplines. However, I agree that Columbia may not be the best place if you hopelessly fail at/despise humanities with no reservation, or are completely set on studying ONLY physics/related science courses (which I must say seems rather narrow-minded).
