Physics over the summer

Here is my schedule for this year(rising junior)
computer math
AP lang
Academic history
Calc BC
AP econ
Physics
Study hall
AP Chem
Would it look bad if I took AP human geo instead of physics and took Physics over the summer. I’ve been assigned the worst physics teacher and I want to be an engineer so I have to get an A+

See if you can change teachers.

Also, how do you know this is the worst teacher? Very often students don’t like teachers because they are strict or not “fun” personalities, or assign a lot of homework, or have high expectations. Doesn’t mean they don’t teach well.

Also, you don’t have to get an A+.

@mathyone I already tried to switch teachers but my counselor wouldn’t let me. Everyone tells me that he isn’t organized and doesn’t like people asking questions. I guess you’re right that he may not be THE worst but based on hearsay he’s pretty bad. I just don’t know what else to do

@swimmers69,

Edit: I misread Physics as AP Physics. Therefore the below might not be relevant at all.

You must be a strong student taking AP Chem and CalcBC in junior. But that’s not enough information so I will play safe. You might be real smart and won’t need this advise at all;

Physics is similar to math that one chapter is built upon the previous chapter’s knowledge. All the physics AP courses cover a lot of materials. If you have taken Physics 1 and really mastered the material, and you have good enough Calculus understanding for Physics C, then I guess you can take Physics C during Summer.

Otherwise, it’s a lot of hard material that moves real fast. No matter how hard you work, your brain might not be fast enough in creating all the biological neuron network to accommodate so much of so foreign ideas during the few Summer weeks. If you get behind a little at any point, the rest of course is a death spiral.

Why not take it in Senior or just skip it? You already have AP Chem.

What physics is this, are you taking honors physics? And can you get honors level physics over the summer? And how do you know the summer physics teacher would be any better? There are plenty of bad physics teachers out there.

Are there other physics options? For instance, can you take AP physics 1 instead of honors physics if that gets you a good teacher?

I’d be inclined to stick with the class unless the teacher is downright incompetent. Honestly, if you are taking BC calc as a junior, basic physics shouldn’t be all that hard for you. Also if you are taking it at your school, presumably with some of your friends, it may be easier to get together a study group which could be helpful if the teacher isn’t helpful.

There will be teachers that are good and bad. If you get assigned to a bad teacher, your best chance is just to take the class. I was told from many students that the professor was I going to take general chemistry 2 was bad. in the end, she was my favorite professor. So take physics.
