Physics VS. Precalc

In general, is physics harder or precalc harder? both being honors…

at my school precalc is harder

I’d say physics only because I haven’t taken it yet and precalc was pretty easy for me; however, a lot of people did struggle in the class. For what it’s worth, I hear the physics teacher at my school is real tough.

In my school, physics. But then, Advanced Physics is the “killer class” of my school - you know, the one class everyone is terrified of.

That completely depends on the individual classes. At my school, I got an A+ in both Honors Physics and Honors Precalculus, but my physics class was more or less Newtonian motion, rotation, waves, and basic electricity and magnetism. Also, it’s the highest level physics class in the school.

Physics. I did encounter a bit of a problem in precalc while we were proving trig identities, but the electricity and magnetism in physics… man, that just killed me.

Anyway the trig identities stuff were just a few weeks long, but the electricity and magnetism lasted a whole semester.

Edit: I was refering to AP Physics B. There is no honors physics at my school.

just to set things straight, I’m talking about Physics 1… not AP or anything vs. Precalc honors.

They’re both challenging. I found precalculus relatively easy though. It’s mostly trig, which is FUN <3.

i didn’t learn either yet, but i’m self teaching both over the summer and i’ve gotten books. precalc is basically advanced algebra and trig, while physics is…hard o.e

i thought physics was a lot more challenging than precalc
to me precac was a breeze haha

Never took either.

Um, both sound pretty boring.

Precalc is sooo easy. As long as you do the homework, you’re good to go.

But I’m math oriented, so this idea is subjective.

I thought both classes were pretty math focused, but physics was easier math IMO.

Precalc was a breeze aside from proving trig identities; I had a pretty fun time with those.

Btw, I’m not sure about honors, but the AP Physics class in my school is calculus based, while the regular and honors classes aren’t.

Physics is a bit harder.

I really hope physics (but more specifically AP Physics B) isn’t as hard as your guys/girls say it is, for my sake. >_<

I’m terrible in math…

The first part of Physics B (mechanics) is basically formulas and is not too difficult.

But E&M and onward is pretty tough.

I mean, is it manageable to get around a B-/B? From everyone I heard who has taken the class, doing homework is a crucial factor in understanding the material in the class. I also heard that there are like 20 points curves, which may or may not be to my benefit.

Is there any calculus in Physics B?

Getting at least a B- should not be very hard.

And it has precalculus, but calculus is only in Physics C.

Precalculus may prove a problem then, seeing as how I will be taking Algebra II/Trig. (Math B in NY state) next year.

I actually asked the AP Physics B teacher if there is anything I could do to prepare for physics over the summer, and he said that the way he teaches the class, I’ll learn everything required for Physics B during the school year. I hope he’s right…
