Piatigorsky International Cello Festival March 9-18 in Los Angeles

<p>The USC Thornton School of Music, the Los Angeles Philharmonic in partnership with The Colburn School and Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra announce the Piatigorsky International Cello Festival to be held on March 9-18, 2012.</p>

<p>The festival will bring together masters of the cello and young gifted cellists from around the world, representing twelve countries. For ten days they will share their artistry and teaching experience through orchestral concerts, chamber music and master classes.</p>

<p>Artistic Director for the festival is Ralph Kirshbaum and narrator will be John Rubinstein. Conductors are Neeme Jarvi, Coutney Lewis and Hugh Wolff. Venues are the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Thayer Hall, Bovard Auditorium, Herbert Zipper Concert Hall, Simon Ramo Recital Hall and the Alfred Newman Recital Hall.</p>

<p>Benefactors of the festival are the Dunard Fund, Irving Harris Foundation, LA Philanthropic Committee for the Arts, Flora Thornton Foundation, Visions & Voices: The USC Arts & Humanities Initiative and the Piatigorsky Drachman Piatigorsky (PDP) Foundation. Gregor Piatigorsky was a former faculty member of the USC School of Music.</p>
