Picking a major to apply with

I’m a CCC transfer student and since UC Berkely didn’t have an option for alternative majors, I felt a lot of pressure when picking what major to apply with.

I applied to every other UC with political science as my primary major and Russian as my alternative major. I would like to be a double major in political science and Russian if possible, but I am fine with just being a Russian major.

I applied to Berkely as a Slavic Languages and Literature major (Russian emphasis). But I was just looking at the Cal website and it said something about being able to change majors at the last minute if the original major you chose is not feasible.
Does this mean that I can apply as a political science major and then, if I’m not admitted to political science, I can switch to being a Slavic major without it affecting my acceptance to the school itself?

Would it even affect my chances to apply as a political science major in the first place? I was told that the courses are impacted but it’s not listed as a selective major, and I’ve completed all of the polysci prep classes with As anyways (I’ve also taken all the Russian classes so either way I’m prepared).

Anyways strategically picking majors confuses me a lot. I’m wondering if I should go back and change my major to political science so that I have more options (I’m assuming it’s easier to pick up Slavic as a double major after getting in as a polysci major, rather than the other way around)
