<p>Why do UC schools make you select a major? And is it better to go w/ undecided if you’re not completely sure? Is it less competitve?

<p>I assume you are asking about freshman application. Applicants to each college at the Berkeley campus are competing against other applicants to the same college, so the admit rate varies a bit from college to college. L&S is the default college for most applicants and major is not considered for admission evaluation, so you are competing against everyone else who is also applying to L&S. CED is supposedly super competitive, as is COE, CNR was historically less competitive, but there hasn’t been any stats published for so long that it’s hard to say whether that is still the case.</p>
