pinewood derby, no rules

My scout troop is doing a no rules pinewood derby, which means no weight limits, almost any method of propulsion can be used (more on this later), etc. So I thought I’d ask you guys for some ideas.

One thing though; by “no rules,” I mean “fewer rules.” Since we’re doing this indoor, explosives and most chemical reactions cannot be used. CO2 canisters are alright, but I’d have to figure out how to puncture it at the exact right moment. Otherwise, it uses up all of the gas while the bar is holding the car in place. Lastly, the car has to be able to fit on the track, so I can’t mess with the size that much.

That being said, everything else is go. If I could manage it, I could put a big wall in front of my car to block the other cars, but it would have to deploy after (if?) my car got in front. I’m thinking of a really powerful fan of some sort as of now.

Any ideas?

raid parts from a lawnmower. See the couch propelled by a snowblower engine at East Campus? My friend’s brother built a go-kart with a lawnmower engine. It goes around 20 mph.

Make your cart nothing more than a bottle of pancake syrup. It rolls down the ramp, spills its junk, and all the other cars get stuck in it as the bottle careens to victory.

haha hamburger, he has to get out in front first
