Pinterest - share your successes!

It’s been about a year since I’ve been on Pinterest. I don’t always visit it everyday, don’t always “pin” on every visit to the site, but I have gained a good bit of knowledge, organization and successful “tries” on recipes, crafty-type things, ideas for educational workshops I give, etc.

If you are proud you DON’T participate on Pinterest, no need to read this thread.
If you claim Pinterest to be just another time suck, no need to read this thread!!

Thought it might be a fun thread to share how you have used Pinterest, what successes you have had (a particular recipe you make all the time now? a time saver? something that helped you organize a part of your life?) since becoming a member.

I’ll start:
I have tried and repeated a couple of new chicken recipes that are in our regular dinner rotation.

I have made a successful Pinterest dish as every family gathering/holiday since joining Pinterest - so it gives me a reason to try out new stuff on people beyond my picky family. :)

I am helping to coordinate a wedding shower with my sister in law and her daughter - I’m in Ohio, SIL is in Michigan and niece is in Oregon - but Pinterest allows us to share and plan virtually.

Pinterest allows me to keep a visual file for a family trip we are taking to a new area.

I do educational workshops for early childhood providers - Pinterest introduces me to new ideas, stirs the creative juices to create new ideas and again helps me to create a visual, organized “file” for these resources.

That’s a start! It’s going to be a homebound weekend the next couple of days - the perfect time to read about all YOUR Pinterest adventures!!!

(has anyone created a board related to the college search - just wondering…)

I’ve learned simple housekeeping tips such as using baking soda to clean dirty tile grout - it worked for me!

My latest discovery is mixing coconut oil with my mineral makeup to make it a tinted moisturizer.

Most of my boards have something to do with home decor and entertaining.

I use Pinterest daily. D1 and D2 will pin things they are interested in and then I follow the path to order birthday or Christmas gifts. Lots of time saved ! They are fashionistas so finding clothes that not everyone has is a big deal to them.

I also use many recipes. Love the new recipe ideas for entertaining. Used many cocktail recipes over the Holidays.

I also like the cleaning and organizational tips. Finally learned to fold fitted sheets the right way after finding and watching a Pinterest tutorial. Then I loved the idea of placing the sheet sets inside one of the pillow cases! Duh! So easy to grab and keeps my linen closet organized.

Remodeling our summer lake home this winter so I have found tons of decor and landscaping ideas. Love the gardening area.

So easy to cook at the lake without hauling recipes since I just turn on the Ipad and go to my recipe file on Pinterest.

Also big on the DIY area. We have made so many things for gifts and home decor. The best were different ways to store jewelry and a weekly organizational chart. D2 and her BF made me a patio table fire pit thingy for Christmas. Love it!

What a great idea - storing the sheets in the pillowcase - I hate when the linen closet gets all mish mash!

I also scrapbook so I have found very many cute ideas for layouts. Also have found some great Cricut tutorials and awesome new scrapbooking tools.

Very topical. A good friend visits frequently and forwards a lot of <mostly cute,="" funny=""> things. I got on a few times and really didn’t get it. But just this week I spent some more time on the site (I think first time from a computer vs. my little phone–I think it’s easier to take it all in from a real computer) and lo and behold found a little trick I actually implemented. Hooray! (BTW–here’s what it was: someone sort of jokingly gave me a Disney-themed cake plate and I really had no idea what to do with it other than put it away. Pinterest had a tip about putting your kitchen liquid soaps (dish, hand) on a cake platter. Voila! It’s kind of cute!)</mostly>

I remodeled my kitchen last year and gathering kitchen ideas really helped me to zone in on what I wanted in terms of cabinets, flooring, millwork, etc. It was really nice to be able to show the pictures to my contractor instead of trying to sketch an idea out for him. I had originally thought I’d do a tile or slate floor, but after realizing my favorite pins were of hardwood floors, I swallowed hard and sucked up the inconvenience of having hardwood installed and finished. Love the results!

I also found it very helpful in planning S’s rehearsal dinner in terms of invitations and flower arrangements. Talking to a florist 4 hours away was made easy by us both being on Pinterest at the same time and following each other.

I spend about 5 minutes a day on Pinterest, but it is a fun early evening diversion. D has a serious Pinterest account and seeing things she likes makes shopping for her easier.

Yes, I would say I probably only average 10 mins or so a day on Pinterest. Some days not at all.

Pinterest is my favorite way to save recipes. I also have boards for paint colors, books I want to read, decorating/furniture ideas, fashion tips, nature, and more.

Getting recipes from my Boards on the Ipad is ok but I don’t like the Pinterest app for looking at things. Really prefer the big screen on my laptop.

I found a pin that helped D2 organize her school closet. She has a bunch of high boots so we attached a heavy tension rod at the bottom of her closet and used pants hangers with the clips to hold her boots together and off of the floor a bit. http://browneidgirl.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2010-11-01T13%3A59%3A00-04%3A00&max-results=3</a></p>

We also used another tension rod to the side of the closet so she can loop all of her scarves there.

I seem to be trying out a new Pinterest recipe almost every week.
The one I found today that sounds good is Quinoa Crunch for sprinkling over fruit and yogurt.
DH was impressed when I found a homemade weed killer recipe. Waiting for the weather to warm up so we can try it.

I spend most of my Pinterst time on food, gardening,DIY crafts and art ideas for preschoolers (teacher).
I also enjoy the inspirational sayings, esp. those about exercise. I need all the inspiration I can get!

My new college grad. son says all of his girl friends who were education majors were avid Pinterst disciples.

I’ve got a board for each d where I pin things I think they might like to try or would just find amusing.

Like many of you, i find the recipes the very best part of Pinterest. I’ve tried a few things that could go onto one of the"nailed it" pins, but mostly I’ve had pretty good luck. Great way to find recipes quickly. Lots of things I think I can modify to make Gluten free. My favorite was a recipe for chicken and pasta with pesto and cream sauce. There’s a garlic brown sugar chicken that’s pretty good. Tons of desserts to try.

Have another board for household tips and things I’d like to try.

Wow - I haven’t looked at Pinterest since it first came out…I think you guys have renewed my interest.

But I have a question. Will everything I like suddenly show up on my facebook or do I have to allow some sort of access for this to occur. (I have facebook friends who pin multiple items per day and this shows up on my facebook page)

Kajon, you don’t have to be linked to facebook. Personally, I prefer not to have my pins linked to my fb account.

I don’t link to FB either.

I don’t know, what the “nailed it” pins means???

I have a “recipes to try” board - then, once I try it, I either move it to another more specific board (“breakfast”. “Appetizer/dips”) or I delete it if I don’t like the results.

Same here; I unlinked my FB account. It drives me nuts to see a ton of Pinterest activity in my FB newsfeed.

I do peruse through the boards of people I follow and repin, but I most often pin recipes I’ve searched out on the interwebs. Pinterest truly acts like a bulletin board/cookbook recipe collector in that way.

My D made great gifts off Pinterest for Christmas the most successful were homemade Carmel’s and spray for car windows to keep from freezing. I have made recipes and follow D & S’s GF to purchase gifts. That was a huge help at Christmas. I find the whole board just stretches my brain a bit at times when it feels like it can’t go any further.

I keep telling my son, a middle childhood math major, that he needs to start a Pinterest board! I’m not “helicopterish” but I’m tempted to start a board for him ( on mine) and then present it to him at graduation!!!
