Pinterest???

Finally got on! I hope I can keep my boards under control!

I will freely admit to being addicted to Pinterest. You would definitely not be the only mom on there - quite a few dads there as well. At first I found myself spending huge amounts of time there, now I spend far less. What do I like about it? I have shared boards with my D, so if there are clothing items she would like, she can “pin” them - very handy for Christmas shopping. I like to read, so I am always following along with book boards to see what people are recommending for reads; I have a “motivational” board that I know D looks at, so I try to pin appropriate quotes there pretty frequently. A lot of people have their “bucket lists”; that may be a board I start soon. Not getting any younger!

I love pinterest! I have found some great food ideas. Made weight watchers queso yesterday it was good. Some great craft ideas too.

I have to limit myself to 10/15 minutes a day though now lol

Did you guys have to sign up and link through FB or Twitter? I did not want the FB timeline that it said I would need to download so I do have a Twitter account and went through that. Is there a way to do it without linking to either one? I did see where you could “unlink” once you signed up so after getting things signed up, I clicked the “unlink” through Twitter. So what was the point of having to do that in the first place?!

I think my 14 year old D would like Pinterest (she loves decorating and other artsy stuff) so wondering if she can sign up without the FB connection.

I set up via facebook (pre timeline) and my daughter used her twitter. I think you do have to do one or the other. I think the link is so you can pin things yourself to the site if desired.

Does your 14 year old have twitter that might be the best option. I am sure she would love some of the stuff on there if she likes decorating…

It was a huge time suck when I first started so beware! Now, not so much but I do love it. DD looks at my “food I want to make” board all the time. I also have a clothing board, a “things to show the girls” board, places I want to visit etc. I just call up the “everything” and scroll through. I enjoy looking at what others have pinned. I have pinned alot of great recipes that my family has loved.

I can see how you can collect a lot of recipe ideas - the recipes seem to runneth over! Enjoying a little of everything and last night “pinned” my first thing from the internet onto Pinterest!!

I’m glad you can edit boards - I can see how I’d want to change things around over time - I imagine you can move something pinned to another board if you want to???

Apologies, but what is the big draw? I looked at a few crockpot recipes, but didnt find it nearly the time suck that cc is!

Here’s how I’d describe the draw:

 1. If you follow friends, it has a Facebook quality - knowing what your friends are doing/liking/interested in in terms of daily life stuff (cooking, decorating, dressing)
 2. If you have ever been someone who tears recipes, ideas, pictures out of magazines to “use” later, then Pinterest is your online way to organize and have these ideas quickly at hand.
 3. It’s a virtual “wish list” of everything in your life. Think of it as the old JCP Christmas catalog x 1000. :)

You can comment etc. but I don’t see it QUITE as time sucking as places like CC where you are “talking” with people. But I enjoy popping into Pinterest a couple times a day and visually seeing new ideas.

Maybe it’s just me, but as more and more people have been getting involved, it seems like the quality of the items pictured has declined.

I signed up without FB or twitter, just as an email request. You don’t have to tie it to other social media.

Skyhook, if you start following pinners when you’ve pinned something of theirs, then you start seeing more things that you’ll like. Also, if you go to one of the specific interest areas instead of the “Everything” board, you’ll often see more things that will be of (p)interest.

I also think it’s natural for what catches your eye to level off. At first few glances, so much looks like you need to pin it. After a bit, you become more choosy.

If you sign up through your facebook account just go to Pinterest settings under your name at the top right and uncheck email/fb notifications. You won’t be linked to fb then.

I admit I am addicted to Pinterest. I love the recipes and DIY areas. Made a ton of gifts for Christmas and have a new supply of delicious recipes. Ds mark clothes they like and then I can order for them. I have also saved home decor and remodeling ideas. Made the dollar store/Vera Bradley candles last night for D2 to take back to school for friends. We have a neighborhood pinterest craft night every so often! Very fun!

Can you provide a link to the candles North??? I LOVE the idea of a neighborhood Pinterest craft night!

And great idea for family Christmas/B-day “wish lists” as a board!

Yes! The candles are the battery operated ones since they can’t have real candles in the dorms . Here is the link:

It is really fun to craft with the young girls. And they have such different ideas of what they want to do.

Thanks for the link…she has some other things that are really cute too!!

Thanks for the link! Will check her other things out later!

When I use Pinterest on my iPad I use Safari. But I can’t figure out how to get the “pin it” button because I can’t see the Tools bar/button on my iPad. It’s not visible. Any help?

My D stopped by after work. She just spent the last hour telling me all about Pinterest. She sent me an invite; I’m flattered! She claims its the rage with the young working adult world. She also told me I was not “too” old to join in the fun.

I am notorious for clipping newspapers and magazines. Now I’ll actually know where to put those interesting recipes and vacation ideas.

abasket - I’ve tried to get the Pin It on my iPad too with no success - if you (or anyone else) figures it out please let us know!

I did figure it out Cali_Mom! Let me see if I can find the link to the page that led you through what to do - I did it last night and was able to pin something!

Here is the link!
