A friend posted information about this on facebook. They want to create a car free village in the line of small european villages, where everything is walkable. I love this concept. I am becoming more and more interested in going green and sustainability and this sounds like some place I might like to retire. The only problem? It’s in the middle of Maine. Not sure I want to retire to Maine winters. Any thoughts on this?

Maybe you could consider retiring in a college town - they’re often highly walkable places - or in an urban area. I live in central Denver where I can walk to the store, restaurants, shops, cafes etc. Don’t need a car as long as I stay within the ‘village’ that is my neighborhood.

I just checked, and not only is this project in Maine, it is in the far boonies of Maine.

Very unlikely that everything would be walkable, because there probably isn’t much there there.

We live in a neighborhood in Seattle which is very walkable & why we moved here 29 years ago.
Still have to deal with car traffic though.
