I’m not sure whether I should post this here or in a scholarship section… but I applied for UCSC’s Pister scholarship. Pretty much it gives 20k (10k each year) to one transfer student per community college that is participating.

Well I showed my transfer counselor my financial aid offer by UCSC, saying that I would get around 32k after loans. 12k would be from cal grant A, 5.5 from pell grant, & 5k from blue & gold program, which is about 22k each year.

My counselor went on to say if I did get the scholarship I wouldn’t be getting this much and that they would cut money from my cal grant & blue and gold. The most I could get without loans would be 20k. I understand not giving me money from blue and gold, but would they really take out money from my cal grant or pell grant? I’m really confused because the scholarship is for low income students who would otherwise be unable to attend the college, but if you were that low income you would qualify for a little more than 20k per year.
Thanks,
Ashley
