Pitt direct admit Business vs Indiana at Bloomington

My son just got off the Pitt wait list and was direct admitted into the Business school. He got into Indiana but not into Kelly. So now he has the dilemma of which school to attend. Any ideas from all of you?
Thanks for any input.

I am a fan of direct admit programs so would lean towards Pitt if your son wants a business major.

Completely agree on direct admit.

Although both universities are larger state or state-affiliated schools, the business programs are rather different. My college sophomore was a direct admit to Kelley and to Ohio State’s Fisher and decided she preferred Pitt CBA because of the much more manageable (to her) class sizes. Pitt admits in the neighborhood of 350 CBA students and, with internal transfers, graduates about 500/year. Kelley and Fisher admit over 2,000/year and graduates even more. Even if he is able to transfer into Kelley, would he prefer that environment?

The locations are quite different, too, of course. Either school can have a good outcome, but would he be happier in a city or in a college town? In a very large program or in one that will immediately be more personal (CBA has rather good advising)?

There a lot of ways into business outside of a business major, but how easier or hard that would be depends on his area of interest.

Finally, are the costs comparable and do-able at each?

Agree, unless Indiana is a lot cheaper.

The dean at IU Kelley thinks the popularity is primarily driven by placement rate. Check Pitt’s stats with the career center and compare while deciding

The student wasn’t accepted to Kelley, though, so the placement rates may not be applicable.

Thanks for input. He wants Marketing as the major. Since we are in California it is out of state for both schools. The cost are about the same.
Thanks

Another vote for direct admit

Not Business, but Nursing at schools that didn’t have direct admit.
Personally know students that didn’t get into Nursing. One changed schools Junior year, another changed majors Junior year to Public Health then did accelerated BSN after got Bachelors.

For a marketing degree, I don’t see the where as mattering.

But even if it did, if it’s untouchable to you, what would be the point?

For a marketing major I would recommend a b-school.

Here are the standards for an internal transfer to Kelley. They must apply in their spring semester of their first year. It happens automatically if the student has all Bs and above, but it’s also not a given because many students struggle to get their footing in their first semester. They still consider students who have gotten lower than a B:

Go with a direct admit program unless you feel absolutely sure your student can get a B in all classes freshmen year. Once you get a B- your chances of getting into Kelley drop to 50%. We’re on pitt waitlist for business too. When did you hear you were admitted from waitlist?

Standard admission is still an option. Keeps the student focused and gives them a tangible goal to achieve to be a kelley admit .

You know your son best. I would put my kid in the program where he doesn’t have to stress about making a mistake freshman year (i.e., the direct admit).

We looked at Pitt when S24 was building a list. This info was from the last poets & quants ranking where they published the numbers behind the rankings.
Internships: 92%
Employed: 96%
Employed in the industry/company of choice: 92%
Average starting salary for all business majors: $63,800

We would also be out of state, so I looked at that metric too, and according to poets&quants, the business program is 40% out of state.

Direct admission into a business program relieves a lot of stress.

Two great options.

Son got the emails about housing on Friday, April 19th. So it might have been that date or a day or two before. He has not been great about daily checking his account.
