My DD is right in the 50th percentile for SAT scores. GPA is 3.98UW and 4.8W. Trying to decide whether to send scores. Did anyone get into Pitt Honors College applying test optional? Thanks!
This is not enough info to give you guidance.
What is the SAT score in total and by section? What school at Pitt would they be applying to? What is their class rank(approximate it if HS doesn’t report it.) How does their rigor compare to classmates?
Has your student asked their HS counselor for their opinion?
Sorry for the incomplete information. Superscore is 1300, 680 Reading, 680 Math. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, Digital Narrative major. HS doesn’t rank but stats are at the top of school profile - all APs and Honors, 2 5s, 2 4s on AP tests. She asked her HS Counselor and she said “it couldn’t hurt” but trying to crowdsource better information. Thanks so much!
This looks like the superscore would be 1360?
If the section scores are correct, I would submit based on Class of 2028 stats (we don’t have Class of 2029 stats yet):
I would report all her AP scores in the app, and would consider getting Honors College a reach. Good luck!
680 Reading, 620 Math - 1300 SuperScore. Typing too fast!
Got it. That does make the decision a bit harder. I would still lean to submitting because of the school and major she is targeting. I agree with the counselor that her scores are unlikely to hurt her application.
Thank you so much for responding! It’s interesting, that Major is across two Schools - Dietrich and School of Computing and Information and available as a dropdown option for either. She emailed her admissions counselor at Pitt to ask whether to chose one or the other and she advised Dietrich, which is nice because it’s cheaper and easier to get into it seems. Thanks again!
Agree with targeting Dietrich. Good luck to her, and get that Pitt app in as early as possible after it’s available!
Hi! Last question before the apps open tomorrow. Any benefit to submitting directly using Pitt app versus Common App? I know with Pitt app, you can complete STARS immediately and have a complete file. With Common, it’s a few days of waiting for all the information to transfer. I realize I am WAY overthinking. Thank you.
I don’t think there is any benefit in admissions, but yes starting work on STARS immediately is a bit of a benefit. (downside of doing the Pitt app is entering all the background info when you only need to do that once in common app) Does your D have her 6 semester transcript ready to go to input into STARS?
Can they input the courses today and be ready to link tomorrow? It looks like the Pitt STARS link still goes to SRAR?
Yep! 6 semester transcript and senior schedule. Activities and Personal Statement saved as PDFs for upload. Also, the Honors College got rid of their supplemental essay so now its just “check the yes” box and a holistic review.
I’m not up to speed on the SRAR changeover to STARS, so I’m not sure one can input all the data today. You D could contact Pitt admissions and ask, or just wait until tmr.
Another question re: the Pitt app (can’t remember from when my first kid applied)—does it include an activity list? C26 hasn’t created that yet so trying to figure out whether that will need to be done before submitting the application. Thanks!
Yes, there is a section that asks for you to upload a document with your Activities.
