Pitt vs McGill

I sent my enrollment fee to pitt but was just taken off mcgills waiting list. i want to double major in int. studies (or something of the sort) with a focus in the middle east and religious studies. i have no idea what to do now. im visiting mcgill next week so i’ll have to see…but omg…any input from CC would be greatly appreciated.

Well, obviously, McGill is a really good school. The best in Canada really. I think you’ll find out plenty about how you feel once you visit and it will probably clarify any decision making that you have. I don’t know how close you live to Pittsburgh, but you always could go back there for another look there as well, perhaps trying to set up appointments with faculty or staff if you have additional questions after your McGill trip. Here’s the link for international studies at Pitt (which you probably already have): [Univ. of Pittsburgh: University Center for International Studies](http://www.ucis.pitt.edu/main/)

and for religious studies: [Department of Religious Studies - University of Pittsburgh](http://www.religiousstudies.pitt.edu/)

I also don’t know if it is possible, but it might be interesting to see if GSPIA or any of the centers or institutes would be willing to take on an undergraduate to get experience in those fields. [GSPIA | Centers, Institutes and Initiatives](http://www.gspia.pitt.edu/Academics/CentersofExcellence/tabid/105/Default.aspx)

Don’t be afraid to call them and ask questions if you have any.

My D1’s friend chose McGill two years ago for Middle Eastern relations. One of her reasons for choosing McGill was that she had learned the Middle Easterners were more receptive to Canadian grads than U.S. because of the U.S. strong ties to Israel. And since she wanted specifically to get a job in Middle Eastern relations, she thought that was important to take into consideration and therefore chose McGill over other U.S. universities. I can’t say if that is a true statement, but might be something you want to ask someone at McGill or Pitt.
