One advantage could be the possibility of participating in coop programs.
I visited Pitt’s CS department not too long ago. The advisor of the program said that Penn State may be ranked slightly higher than Pitt for the sciences, but they’re both in the same league, if that makes sense. I’m merely a prospective student, but it seems like the differences in academics between the two are insignificant enough that your decision should really come down to which you like better overall.
