Pittsburgh Student Life?

Question about the culture/ student life at Pitt. Is there a presence of high school lax bro, preppy, partying, fratty kind of kids at Pitt? What’s the frat scene like? What are the best frats? I am looking for a school with this kind of student body.

Also how it Pittsburgh as a college town?

Whats the school spirit like?

I am also looking at schools like Maryland, Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin. How does Pitt compare?

Anyway thanks for the help!

Pitt’s sports fans are enthusiastic. The football team plays at Heinz Field, which is the Steelers’ stadium. The basketball student section is called The Zoo.

Many of the fraternities are on the upper campus near the dormitories. There is a pretty active social scene if that is what you are interested in.

Pitt is the smallest of the colleges you are considering. Its campus is in the suburb of Oakland, but bus service can take you all over the city. There are plenty of things going on on campus.

Pittsburgh is also home to a professional hockey team, the Penguins.

Pitt has plenty of parties if that is what you are looking for, but I would say that other schools on your list are bigger party schools.

Did you really get accepted to all the schools on the list especially University of Wisconsin, Madison ? If yes, I would go there for lax bro, preppy, partying, fratty etc along with great academics…Second will be Penn State…

Pittsburgh has more college students per capita than any city in the US except Boston. Pitt doesn’t have varsity lax though, just club level. You aren’t going to get any better lax culture than at Maryland and that just drops as you go further west. That said, Pitt draws a ton of students from lax saturated eastern PA/Philadelphia so you’ll easily find like minded lax bros.

There is a well established club team
[University of Pittsburgh Men’s Lacrosse](University of Pittsburgh Men's Lacrosse)

Urban schools generally have less prominent greek cultures because there is so much more going on that it makes being Greek less of a requirement socially, but it is there if you want to get involved. Plenty of house parties, greek parties (both at Pitt and adjacent Carnegie-Mellon), and tons of bars throughout the city. A lot of variety in the city that you won’t find in smaller towns or rural settings. Free city public transportation with your Pitt ID gets you there.

Pitt is much more urban compared to the other schools on your list and half the size of Ohio State and PSU and that comes with a comparatively intimate feel both academically and socially but in a much more frenetic setting due to its urban nature. School and city spirit takes a back seat to no one. But it sounds like you should visit and check it out to make sure it would be a setting that you’d want.
