<p>The closest big airport is in Hartford, CT, which is about an hour’s drive away.</p>
<p>I don’t think you can fly non-stop to there from too many places though, so it might be quicker and cheaper to fly into Boston, even though the drive from there would be 45 minutes or so longer.</p>
<p>Another option would be Providence, RI. It’s a smaller airport about the same distance away as Boston, but sometimes you can get cheaper flights there.</p>
<p>I live close enough to Amherst that it’s never been worth it for me to stay there, so I can’t really recommend a place to stay. There’s a bunch of chain hotels within 5 or 10 miles, and there is a hotel on campus (although I don’t think it is very cheap).</p>

<p>For cheap, basic and clean, the Knight’s Inn in Hadley is fine. It’s about 5 miles from the campus.</p>
