Where can I find information about German placement exams? I’m not taking the AP test, so I’d really like some information about them. Thanks.

I’m also looking at taking German at MIT next year. From what I’ve been told (here and at the academics fair at CPW), there is no placement test; you talk to your advisor and a professor, choose a class based on that, and apparently it’s pretty easy to move up and down.

Looks like it’s all immersive-style teaching, too, which may or may not make things easier for those of us whose German background is good in some ways, bad in others.

Take a look at the syllabus for the different levels on http://ocw.mit.edu to get a feel for where you might fit in. Also, consider that you’ll be on pass/no record first semester, so if you’re feeling up to it, you can try out German III or IV to get one of your Hass-Ds out of the way :)
