My 17yo D and I will be visiting DIII colleges in the Claremont area the 3rd week of March. Arriving around noon on a Sat and leaving late in the day the following Thursday. Most days we will visit one college, but there may be one day when we do two. So we will have some free time for fun. Any thoughts on hotel or a B&B in that area? I would like to keep the cost under $200 per night. (H not coming, but likes to keep cost well under $200, but he will stay anywhere, I am more picky). We will have a rental car and don’t mind a short drive each day. TIA!
We saw my nephew’ grad from Pomona. My brother is on Hotwire and got us a lovely hotel that included breakfast for under $50/night for 4 of us. It was close to Pomona and the outlet mall. He stayed at a different place (two separate bids), that was also nice and similarly priced. Sorry–can’t remember the name of the place.
I think the hotels near the Ontario airport are cheaper generally. I’ve never stayed in that area though as my H always opting to pay for convenience when we visited our daughter who graduated from Pomona College.
It was Ayres–both the hotel and the inn and suites were well-priced, included breakfast and near the Claremont Colleges (short drive away) and included free parking. We got free breakfast too.
A hotel in California near Pomona for under $50 and included breakfast? How many years ago?!
It was 2012–bid on Hotwire. We had a suite.
My son and I stayed in Claremont when he visited 4 of the 5 colleges in the consortium. We stayed at a Doubletree on Foothill Blvd that was just a little over a mile from the schools. With taxes it came to about $175/night (AAA rate).
I was set to pay the unblinded rates on Hotwire or Priceline but my brother said he could do better bidding for me–he was right.
Try giving them a call and checking their rates.
@ClaremontMom can help!
The Doubletree in Claremont has a special rate if you are visiting one of the Claremont Consortium schools.
Yes, I second checking with the colleges you are planning to visit.
I agree with the others…The most convenient is the Doubletree and you may be able to get a rate associated with the colleges. It’s really a nice hotel and very friendly staff. I always like my stays there. (Yes, I’m fairly local but sometimes we stay overnight to avoid the drive back and forth for some events.)
Next would be the Ontario airport area. There are plenty to choose from there. I’ve personally stayed at the Embassy Suites, Hilton Garden Inn and the Hampton Inn and I was happy with all of them.
My Brother and SisIL always stayed at Ayres hotels, a southern CA chain when they visited their son who attended Pomona. Sometimes they booked direct and sometimes they bid on Hotwire. I would have been happy to stay there again as well–nicely maintained, nice rooms and good breakfast and parking.
Sounds like there are other nice suggestions as well.
Thank you all! I will take a look at everyone’s suggestions.
