Plan B- help!

I was recently denied from NYU Stern so I was wondering whether I should try to apply Early Decision 2 for Emory University.

I am still so sad over NYU, many of my friends, teachers and college counsellor were pretty convinced that I would be getting in or at least get deferred.

here are my stats

GPA: 3.7/4.0
GPA trend: improvement

SAT: Reading: 600 Writing:620 Math: 640
I know my SAT scores are pretty crappy, I always did way better for all my practice exams… and its so hard to make time to study for SAT’s with the IB workload (i know… excuses)

IB subjects: Math HL, English A:Lang & Lit SL, Spanish A: Literature, Biology SL, Economics, HL, Psychology HL
doing the full IB diploma programme

I have many extra curriculars because I really liked doing them… yes I know my grades were sacrificied for the activities but I really don’t regret it
-Student Government Vice President and Student senate (4 years)
-Volleyball and Football/Soccer (4 years) JV Captain and MVP (2 years)
-School Orchestra (1st chair Violoncello 4 years)
-Newspaper and Yearbook (4 years- Design Layout Chief Editor)
-Golf (outside of school for 8 years - won a few tournaments)
-MUN (organised first MUN conference in school- honorable mentions, chairing and Sub-Secretary General- 4 years)
-Make-a-Wish organizer
-Student Relations Committe (2 years- helping students: tutoring or peer to peer help)
-Environmental Club Founder (2 years)
-Key Club (Treasurer)

My essay for the Common Application was my counsellors favorite that he sent it to all the heads of school…
My counsellor also mentioned that I had very strong recommendation letters (Math, English, CAS and the school Principal)

I think it’s too late to do that . Besides it’d make little difference , all that would happen is you would be binded to emory. Look for some safeties dear

I’m not sure why the above user thinks it’s too late to ED2 Emory, but it totally isn’t! All you would have to do is write the writing supplement for Emory (in addition to the ED form and the Common App). And it’d give you a huge advantage, too. You probably have a higher chance of getting into Emory because although applicants have to select majors that you’re interested in, the students who get into Emory don’t have to declare a major until like sophomore year and there is no specific school you’re applying into. I’m assuming the reason you want to go to Emory is for the Goizueta Business school, considering you applied ED to Stern. I think that if you ED2 to Emory, and work really hard during the freshman and sophomore years, you would have a great chance of getting in!
I’m also doing the full IB Diploma Programme, and am also juggling my leadership/SGA/etc activities, so I totally get the drop in grades and scores due to focusing so heavily on extracurriculars. But I think Emory is much less selective, and you’ll have a great chance at going there, and especially if you ED2!

You won’t get into Emory with that SAT. Try some other more realistic schools.
