I applied to BU and got accepted through early decision for class of 2019; however, I regret my choice now but since I did early decision I have no choice but attending BU.
My high school GPA is 4.12, SAT score (reading 600, math 800, writing 610), SAT (Math2 800, chem 800, physics 790)
I will be completing 10 AP’s by the end of senior year.
Have some leadership positions and have a lot of community service
I’m also an immigrant who came to US without knowing English - have that in my essay
So if I do transfer next year, do they still evaluate high school achievement?
What should I do during freshman year to make a better chance transferring?
I have a few schools on my list: Cornell, Brown, UPenn, Columbia, UVa, UCLA, UC Berkley, are they practical?
The schools you put on your list will definitely look at your high school stats as well as your test scores. They also require teacher recs and supplement essays, so you will need to make those really impressive during college and the rest of your senior year.
Without knowing how well you will do at BU your first year, it’s hard to give you a close estimation, but assuming you get a 4.0, you have a good shot. Although, keep in mind that the schools you listed are reaches for almost everyone. Your freshmen year, you should try to get involved in programs and really connect with professors for your rec letters.
UCLA and Cal reserve most of their transfer slots for CCC students. Very low chances for them.
Brown, Cornell, and UPenn have a transfer supplement consisting of “why us?” so good luck answering that. Furthermore the Common App main for transfer is simply the reasons for transfer and your intended major. So it’s a pretty difficult application.
In other words you will need to be passionate about your major with prior experience in the discipline and explain why that school has a program better suited to your interest. If you can do that then yes you have a shot.
