Planning to apply to some top schools

These are my details.

Academics:
GPA: 4.0+
Class rank: 1/400+
ACT composite: 34
ACT writing: 9
SAT II subects: TBD (got 670 in lit and not happy. Planning to do 2 more and shooting for 700 or better)
AP: Done 4 already (2 5’s and 2 4’s) and will do 4 more this yr.

Research:
Summer research on genetic engineering (cancer related)

Extra curricular:
Girl scout: Silver award already and working on gold award.
Piano: 11 yrs with guild tests.
Honor society, Science Olympiad (for 6 yrs), student council.

Colleges planning to apply
Harvard
Duke
Johns Hopkins
Brown
Northwestern
Univ of Michigan, Ann Arbor (close to home)
Washington Univ at St. Louis
Michigan State (backup)

Appreciate if someone can comment on my chances to these schools. Thank you so much.

You’re the val and you have a great ACT score, but nothing really else stands out in your application.

I don’t know much about Girl Scouts, but playing 11 years of piano is good. Guild isn’t really respected too much, so if you have awards from regional, state, or national competitions, it’ll help you a lot.

Your SAT IIs definitely need to be around 750 to be on par with the rest of your academics.

I’d say:

Harvard: Reach
Duke: Slight reach
Johns Hopkins: Slight reach/match
Brown: Slight reach
Northwestern: Match
Ann Arbor: Match
UWash St. Louis: Match
Mich State: Safety

Forgot to mention. I have series of awards for science olympiad at regional and state level. Gold award in girl scout is like being an eagle scout in boy scout terms. Thanks for the reply.

so far so good, the 11 years piano could be your possible hook, even if you don’t have any awards with that activity.

Thank you for the replies. Appreciate more feedback.

I am also hoping that my research where I genetically modified a plasmid and gained hands on experience would help as well. I also count on my 10 yrs of girl scouting leading to gold award (in few months).

Research is great. Take that project to Siemens and Intel, and if you do well there, you have another great incentive for the top colleges to take you.

If you did the Science Olympiads, do you have any results in the USABO or USAPhO? If so, that will also help you out a lot.

That Science Olympiad is different from the USABO and USAPhO. It has many more events in science rather than just a specific subject.

I know that. But perhaps, if she competed in Science Olympiad, she would have tried out USABO or USAPhO. Colleges notice those much more.
