Please advise my planned schedule; graduating within 3 years (computer science)

Hello. I will go to Auburn University this following fall and plan to graduate within 3 years due to my AP credits. Although I was accepted to Georgia Tech, UT Austin, etc, i decided to go to AU since i saw the schedule and thought it is possible to graduate early and pursue my career - planning to get master degree.

I will major Computer Science.

Due to my AP scores, I get 26 credits. I will use toward
MATH 1610 & 1620 (Cal BC score)
ENGL 1100 Eng Comp I (Lang score)
Core Science Sequence I & II (Bio score)
Science Elective (Chem score)
Core Social Science Group II (US Gov Score)

above all classes are included in Computer Science Schedule.
Except those credits, I have AP economic credit (which is regarded as Social Science Group II) and Statistics (which is considered as Stat 2600).
and not sure whether my Literature score can be used to get ENGL 1120.

Here is my planned schedule:

If anyone can advise me or major in computer science, please let me know whether above planned schedule works or not.

Thanks!

Auburn has a great engineering program. My son was also accepted to GT and chose Auburn and is very happy. However, you should discuss your plans with an engineering advisor before you make any final decisions. Remember in college you cannot always get the exact classes you want the semester you want. AND freshman are low man on the totem pole when it comes to registration. My son did get everything he needed as a freshman but it took a bit of jiggling…just looking at your list I can tell you engineering 1110 is often full for new freshman and they must take it in January. Again, these questions are best answered by an advisor. They are very helpful.

FYI - we have friends at Georgia Tech who say their registration was stressful - one neighbor had only two classes after her first attempt at registering. She eventually filled her schedule but it did not go the way she had planned.

If you can, get into the honors program. Unless things have changed recently, you will get to register early all except the first semester.

Even in the honors college, you may not be able to get the coursework you want when you want it. Plan to study in the summer at least once if you truly want to graduate early; that way you have some “wiggle room”. Also, you may have conflicts with times of courses so you wind up having to defer some courses to later years. Keep in constant contact with your advisor! Good Luck!

Agreed with abtsmom. I graduated in Aero, and a lot of classes are only offered once a year, so you need to make sure you deconflict that. (An advisor can help) Normally, when people finish in three years, they remove the first year. If so, you need a lot more 2000 level classes in your Freshman year, you need to make sure you’re getting the pre-requisites out of the way, so you can take the 300 classes your second year, and 400 your third.

Also, 15 hours per semester isn’t very aggressive if you want to finish in 3 years. I averaged 36 Hrs/ year going into my senior year, and I finished in four years. (granted, with a different degree)

Additionally, for the AP credits, make sure you are getting credit for the class and the hours (it sounds like splitting hairs but it’s legit). I didn’t have AP, but I comped out of a few classes, and the credits counted, but I’m not sure the hours did (I didn’t check, it didn’t matter for me. When I was working on my Master’s it mattered, and the class counted but the hours didn’t so I had to pick up another class). Example, take *these classes and have 121 hrs to graduate. You may have the classes checked off, but if you only have 91 hours they won’t graduate you. (Some degrees differ by only a class or two. You can’t pick up two extra classes and get two degrees, you’ll meet the class requirements, but not the hour requirements)

My best advice is to sit down with an advisor, and make sure you’re on track to graduate when you think you will. (In ROTC this was manditory, so I got reaffirmed every semester that I was on track… a lot of my “civilian” friends had some nasty surprises come the three or three and a half year mark.)
