Other Accomplishments
You can tell by my senior schedule that I am an IB Diploma student. I am also a People to People Student Ambassador, and I completed IB Middle Years with the Highest Honor and had my Personal Project evaluated in China.

Your ACT and GPA aren’t great, but they’re pretty good. I think you have a great chance of getting in though because of your tough schedule, and you’re a URM (At least I think you are; I just learned this word today LOL).

I think you have a shot. Your GPA is below average. Average ACT at U-M is 27-31. Your ACT falls within that category. Because Michigan uses race as a factor In their admissions process I think there is a possibility that you can get in. Don’t rely on race though. I didn’t rely on it when I applied. I strived to write the best essays I could possibly write. That’s all you can do.

I hate when people say my GPA is below average. An unweighted GPA of 3.5 is a B+ average!!! People slay me when they criticize my GPA, I’m not ■■■■■■■■. But thank you for the feed back, really.

I don’t think anyone is trying to criticize your GPA or anything. 3.5 is fine, but it’s below the U of M average of 3.7-4.0, sorry.

BrownorDartmouth, I think people mean your GPA is on the low side relative to the norm at Michigan (the average admitted student into Michigan has a cummulative high school GPA of 3.8 and only 25% of admitted students have sub 3.7 GPAs). That is not to say your GPA is not good or that you aren’t a competitive applicant. In fact, the IB is tough, so a 3.5 IB GPA is more like a 3.8 GPA in a regular high school curriculum.

I would say Michigan is a match or a realistic reach, depending on how Michigan interprets your GPA. Complete your application to Michigan in September if you can.

I’d say you’re a confused rising senior. All of your top choices are not the ones in your screen name. ;-)

Hehe! Good point Novi. I did not see any mention of Brown or Dartmouth in the OPs initial post. But it should be noted that his Native American heritage (assuming it is greater than 12.5%) could boosdt his chances significantly.

Alexandre,
At UM? I thought they got rid of affirmative action so race won’t help/hurt.

@ the OP: Being out of state, yes the GPA is going to hurt. It is lower than the middle 50%.

I believe that U-M won it’s case pertaining to undergraduate admissions at the U.S. Supreme Court. However, the voters of the state of Michigan voted into law that says, and I am not sure if this is correct, that URM should not be given any advantages over any other citizens.

OK Let’s post some real facts so that no one is confused over Grutter, Gratz, and MCRI (Proposal 2).

[Affirmative action in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](<a href=“Affirmative action in the United States - Wikipedia”>Affirmative action in the United States - Wikipedia)

The Grutter decision is the legal form of affirmative action across the country. Although Proposal 2 passed in the state of Michigan, the university still practices some aspects of Grutter in their admissions.

cdz, a university does not have to use a forumal to use race as a deciding factor. Instead of doing it automatically like it used to, Michigan now addresses its diversity needs manually. But you can be sure that any native American who is qualified will be given a very serious look.

Thanks for clarifying this subject tenisghs. I was too lazy to look it up earlier.

I know that…But Brown or Dartmouth became…unrealistic goals for me. I might apply to see what happens, but I just don’t know that either will accept me.
