I had much lower stats than yours, and also applied for FA, and still got in. Hope for the best!

Cornell is need blind.

Anyway, your stats are good, maybe a little bit above average among the Jewish engineering students accepted at Cornell. The only thing is that your GPA could be a bit higher.

It definently should have been. I switched from a school that wasn’t rigorous acedemically, so it took me a while to adjust. I hope they see my grades this year because i have a 3.85 with A’s in everything besides English (B+) this year. Are there any cases when Cornell requests quarter grades?

Are accepted Jewish engineers known for having lower scores or something? I didn’t know this was a well-known group. Never heard of a group called SJE.

On another thread discussing religion, ari, you expressed a lack of belief in God and attempted to de-emphasize the prevalence of prayer amongst Jews. Yet, you not only regularly attend synagogue (a place of worship), but you’re a friggin CHILD GROUP PRAYER LEADER!??!

dontno, get the f*** out.

You have good scores. Especially if you applied ED, you have a good shot. But what do I really know?

Forgot to mention interview. I havn’t had it yet (nor have been officially contacted) but (this is at you dotno) a cornell interviewer who lives on my block requested to interview me (he goes to the same minyan or service as me) so I assume that it will at least not hurt my application.

bump 10char

chendrix:

what exacttly is your problem? If you’d like to contend that I’m a racist, then please provide specific quotes to countenance such an accusation. I’m sure you’ll find plenty of material in the “Cornellians for Obama” thread. If not, then f*** off.

(This isn’t pertinent to this thread, but chendrix keeps leaving antagonistic posts directed towards me.)

when did he say u were a racist? he just get the f*** out. pretty simple.
also i rarely pray with the kids, I probably should have said something diff., i just wanted to make it sound diff. than a babysitter. (i took the wording straight from my application)

I wouldn’t give you the arguments that you so obviously leech your sustenance off of.

You love to start sh**, in every thread, regardless of its pertinence or its applicability to the situation.

This, among other things, is why I don’t like you.

What I meant to say was that the SAT average for engineering is about a 1430, at last from a couple years ago. I would think a 1490 is above the average, even among Jewish students (and Asians) who, in general, need higher scores to gain acceptance to Cornell and other top schools.

Ok I see what you’re saying. But that would only apply to Asians. Jews are considered a Caucasian minority and thus not suseptible to the same “quotas” Asian applicants must endure.

I wouldn’t say Jews have the same competition as Asians, they’re not as prolific in Ivy League pools.
Looks good for Engineering, your Math/CR is really similar to mine (780, 720 for me)!
And since you got accepted to Carnegie Mellon, I think you stand a good chance at Cornell CoE

Thanks. Also, we (judging by previous threads) aren’t prolific in Ivy League pools? Cornell (which is on the lower side for ivies) is 16.6% jewish. Though limiting the amount of people of a specific religion is looked down upon alot more than limiting the amounts of people of a specific race (and this is what makes the competition for a Jew less than that of an Asian)

am i mistaken or is ‘jewish’ not even one of the quotas. i dont think the groups are religion dependent, but what do i know. asians and south asians have the most difficult competition, both because of strong overall scores and performance, as well as a highly increasing us population in both. my good friend’s (indian kid) brother was rejected from every ivy save dartmouth last year with a 4.0 (salutatorian at a competitive private school) and 2380, 800, 790, 790. apparently these types are either getting very numerous or very boring. caucasians have similar competition, but to a slightly lesser degree. youre chances are solid, but ive learned even prodigies are no shoe-ins

there isn’t an official/public quota, but the person who is going to give my alum interview (who is Jewish) told me to apply to ed because they have unofficial quotas for kids from Jewish schools (though lots of kids at my school and other Jewish schools I know of get in) and that if i apply ed i would miss being affected my them.

BlueDevilBBall// that does not bode well for the likes of me…

Yeah, there is a prominent Jewish population at Cornell, as well as many other top schools, especially in NYS. There is even a dining hall that only serves Kosher meals.
