Please chance a valedictorian

Hi, I just learned I am
The valedictorian of my class and will remain that way unless I literally get an “F” in one of
my classes. I recently applied to Georgia Tech engineering and am wondering if this will help get me in. I have a 31 on the ACT but only a 25 on the math part (pathetic I know). I have a 3.8 unweighted gpa and have taken the most rigorous courses some even taught by a PhD professor (he volunteers at my school, yeah, volunteers! Crazy right??) and have a strong essay in the application and 100+ plus hours volunteer service record. Also, I am
Hispanic and live with my mom who is a single parent receiving no child support. So does being valedictorian in combination with any of these other qualities make up for lame act math score?? I mean I’ve had straight A’s in every math course Ive ever taken but I get sooo nervous come ACT time. Please chance me if you would. Thank you!!!

My ACT scores were not “amazing” as well (31 overall, 28 math, I think with super score though I might have had a 32 but I don’t know) but I still got into Tech. I would say you still have a strong chance though in all honesty it might depend on your ECs.

Well i mean the Valedictorian doesn’t mean much ( a val at one school could be a scrub at another), but your act is pretty good along with GPA. Your at the average for academics but given your ethnicity and your family status and volunteer hours your in

Variance in being Valedictorian can be Ocean’s-wide.

Just as an example:

My son’s OOS public HS class of 318 has 16 valedictorians presently all with unweighted 4.00 gpa’s and another 12 kids with 1 “A-minus”. 93% = a full “A”. Our state can’t weight classes and my son’s 8 APs is the most, but the majority of the 16 have at least 5. If one of the Valedictorians at his HS got a single “C”, they might risk dropping out of the Top-20%of the class. Hard to fathom what an “F” would do.

The 25 in ACT is certainly the weak point. Have you taken the SAT? What math/science classes have you taken?
