I’m applying as an International Relations major at CAS for EDII. I’ve taken both Economics and International Relations in high school. I know that IR is honors major at NYU and that it’s tough to get into so my major isn’t guaranteed, but here we go. :)

I go to an American private school in Dubai, UAE.

GPA: 3.5 uw
SAT: 1900
SAT IIs: Lit 710 and Biology 690
APs: Biology 5, AP Lang 4 (My school only allows you to take up to 4 APs in either your junior or senior year.)
Current Senior year course load: AP Euro, AP Calc, AP Literature, Arabic, Business, Sociology/Psychology

ECs: Past two years I have been interning in Afghanistan with NGOs and doing independent research on Afghan women. I’ve written several reports and articles that have been used by the NGOs. I’ve lived with four different families in Afghanistan over the span of two summers. When I graduate I plan to work in Afghanistan with an existing NGO or create my own. It’s a clear focus in my application that I wish to be in International Relations for my future.

Extra: I can speak Arabic, Pashto and Farsi. I going back to Afghanistan this summer as well.

Any input would be appreciated! I know my GPA/SAT stats are weak. So I’m hoping my passion for my ECs shows. :)

Obviously I had different EC’s but virtually the same stats and was accepted to CAS EDI. I think you have a pretty good shot just make sure your essay is a killer.

If stats were everything than I would not have been accepted. Regardless of your GPA being below their average, I still think you have a fair chance

I agree with arrcot I got 1900 SAT and similar gpa and I got accepted into CAS ED1. Make sure you have great essays and you definitely have a shot!

NYU is one of the most stats based top universities. It’s probably one of the most predictable as well. That said, if you look at what NYU says is “most important” versus “important” academic qualifications are deemed “most important” while ECs etc are “important” or “not considered”. That said, I stand by my original assessment and say NYU is a reach.

I’m assuming you’ll be applying for entry into the politics department? IR and Politics at NYU are quantitative, especially since NYU is host to Bueno de Mesquita. Everything is quantitatively analyzed, game theory is applied, etc. Be prepared to hate the Politics department because there’s math in your politics. That said, the politics department at NYU is phenomenal and the education you’ll receive is on-par with the ivies.
