Hi, I’m a rising senior looking at Vassar, Swarthmore, Wellesley, Amherst as reach schools.

GPA (unweighted): 3.83
SAT: 2220 (770 R, 770 W, 680 M)
projected 34 on the ACT, but I haven’t gotten my scores back yet.

main EC’s:
President of Drama Club
I lettered in Drama
Cast member of multiple productions, also did tech work
active member of Oregon Thespians-- attended thespian leadership summit; during soph. and junior years, I did well at regional thespian competition and went on to compete at the state level
Global Perspectives Club
NHS
SNHS
voice lessons starting spring of sophomore year

community service:
15+ hours at a soup kitchen
65 hours at a homeless women’s center

awards:
Spanish Award both freshman and junior year

I’ve typically taken advantage of available honors/AP classes except for in English, where I did honors freshman and sophomore year but then switched to regular.

I’m passionate about theatre and foreign languages, namely Spanish. I am happy with my SAT score but worried about my GPA and EC’s. Where do I really stand?

ALSO I need to add that I have a downward trend in my grades, partly due to more difficult classes and partly because of a changing attitude towards school (bad, I know).
Freshman year was straight A’s, sophomore year had only one B, but junior year had 2 B’s first semester and second semester, a B+, B, and B-.
My poorer grades have almost exclusively been in math and science, which may not be such an issue for LAC’s, I’m not sure.
Does this all look really bad?

I think your GPA is good, although the downward trend could be problematic. I see Swarthmore and Amherst as your biggest reaches, better chances at Wellesley and probably the best chance at Vassar. Your math SAT could be higher as well, but it might not make a difference. ECs are good in that they show a strong focus on theatre.

Excellent, thanks!

shameless bump! I think my SAT is high but I’m not sure where the rest of my info stands.

SAT and EC’s look great. But the only thing that concerns me is the downward trend. It needs to improve first semester of senior year no matter what

Just got my ACT scores back… 33 composite! Does this seem to line up with my SAT and GPA?

SAT and ACT scores are basically identical now. But your GPA is still low

I think you will have a decent shot at all of these schools if you really push the theater-focused lopsidedness you possess. If you do ED, that will really help your chances and potentially allow them to forgive your downward trend.
