Hello,
I am wondering whether anyone here would be able to give me a realistic idea of my chances of getting into a graduate program in Psychology at Oxbridge as a Canadian Undergraduate student. I’ve seen the minimum requirements listed on the websites for both schools, but never really trust these values to be accurate and expect that it is actually much harder to get admitted, especially from Canada.
Grades:
GPA: Overall GPA of 4.2 out of 4.3 for all courses, and an overall GPA of 4.25 in Psychology courses averaged across my first 2.5 years of study.
Relevant Experience:
I have worked in two Psychology labs as a research assistant and am currently working on my own independent research project supervised by a member of the Psychology department (no guarantee of publication though). I spent last summer working full-time in a research laboratory and am expecting to do the same this summer. I will be completing an Honour’s Thesis.
Awards:
I have won a few scholarships from my school for highest grades in Psychology courses first and second year. I have consistently placed within the top 3% of undergraduate students at my school in terms of overall GPA, and received an award for being one of the top second-year students in my faculty based on my second year grades.
Other Experience (in University):
I volunteered as a reading tutor for school-children in my first year. I am also considering applying to work as a teaching assistant for a first-year course during my final year.
I know my grades are good based on Canadian standards, but I’m really not sure how this will hold up in terms of the Oxbridge application process. I am concerned that most of my extracurricular experience comes from work in a research laboratory and not from other clubs or organisations. Also, if there is anything I could do to improve my chances, please let me know!
Thank you!
