Please chance me for Choate Rosemary Hall!

Hi there! Please chance me for Choate Rosemary Hall. (HS class of 2030)

Heads up: I was in seventh grade in the 2024-2025 school year. Have NOT started eighth grade yet.

Demographics
I’m a US citizen, Hispanic/south Asian, female. 13yo. I also come from two immigrant parents, my dad grew up in Mexico and my mom grew up in Tanzania, but is from India/Pakistan.
Located in CT about an hour away from Choate, I would have to do boarding.

Cost Constraints / Budget
Would need a scholarship or partial financial aid, not too much.

Not submitting any tests as the fees to take them are quite expensive, all A’s or A+'s throughout my whole school career.

Took Algebra 1 in 7th grade, and taking Geometry Honors in eighth grade.

Awards
School Rotary Essay Winner, I won the spelling bee in my grade 5th, 6th, and 7th grade, Also student of the month in my grade for two trimesters. Highest honor roll all trimesters in 7th grade.

Sports
I am a dedicated gymnast: Training 20.5 hours per week at a gym that is an hour away. (2025 Regional Champion All around, beam, floor, and bars. 2024 3rd on America’s top 100)
Arts
Contemporary dance, and have taken piano lessons since I was in Kindergarten.
Clubs
I am in my school’s student leaders program (kinda like the student council but we don’t have one in our school) and also helped my teacher found an environmental awareness group.
Volunteering
Next year we are starting a composting program thanks to that group, and I will be volunteering in my lunchroom to help it. I am also looking in to volunteering at my local library.

I haven’t filled out any of the application or interviews yet, but when I do I will update this thread.

Other:
I wrote a 150-ish page book in 4th grade, and got it published in 6th. It is in numerous libraries and I also was able to talk to some local schools about it. I am currently in the works on the sequel.

If you have any questions about me that would help you chance me, feel free to ask them. I’m unsure of some of the questions that I need to answer.

You sound like a wonderful candidate and will bring a lot to a BS. Since you’re looking at boarding would you consider applying more broadly?

You look like a very interesting candidate.

You can probably get a fee waiver for the SSAT if money is an issue. But if you don’t need much FA, you would be advised to see how you score. THEN you can decide whether to submit the score.

You also need to figure out what you plan to do about gymnastics. Are you planning to give it up? That’s going to be tricky to work into BS.

Agree that as you plan to board, you may want to apply more broadly.

Hi,
I think I know you, I sent you a private message!
You are a great candidate, but continuing your gymnastics training will be the issue. I’m not sure about Choate, but most boarding schools require you to do a school sport or on campus activity every afternoon for at least the first two years. You would have to have a conversation with the admissions office about whether they would allow you to leave campus enough to continue training at the level you are currently at.

Hello! Thank you everyone for all of your answers. I definitely will apply to more schools, but honestly am the most worried about Choate… I have talked to my parents and I would most likely look into the diving program at Choate as that takes a lot of components from gymnastics such as Ariel awareness and form!

Does anyone have any recommended websites where there is an SSAT practice test?

Hello, I am also a rising 8th grader applying for Bs and you seem like a much more accomplished candidate. Good luck with apps!

Good luck to you too! Hoping we both get in and could become friends

Absolutely! And also are you applying for PEA (phillips exeter academy)?

I don’t plan to. Choate is the only highly competitive school. (My parents are letting me board, but they don’t want me to go too far)

Oh, well Choate is still an amazing school from what I have heard!

I intend on applying to just PEA

OP, are you planning to give up gymnastics anyway and/or do you want to quit?

This question is independent of your plan to try diving.

Hi! I’m applying to Choate and a couple of other schools too and I’m using the official SSAT website resources it’s around 120 bucks I think. It’s a little expensive escpecially as somene applying for financial aid (im also asking for fee waivers) but it’s very worth it and theyre easy to use! Good luck!

Hi!!
You seem like a great candidate, especially with your involvement with gymnastics and spelling bees. I think you definitely want to mention that in your interview or essay if possible.
For your question about SSAT prep, you can find a free practice test on the SSAT official website, it’s a 30 minute mini diagnostic test, and a great resource to find your weaknesses. And I completely agree with illusioncloudhuman, the paid practice resources are very worth it. The online practice is around 80 dollars, but super easy to use.
If that’s a problem, try using the resources from Ivy Global, Test Innovators and Varsity Tutors. They might not be the most accurate difficulty wise, but definitely worth checking out.
Good luck! I hope you have a great application season!
