Could someone please chance me for CMU’s CIT? I know it’s definitely a reach, but how much of a reach is it? (I’ll be visiting it soon, I hope, and will try to arrange for an interview.)

I’m an Asian female junior from a public high school interested in studying engineering. I was a really bad slacker in middle school and the habit kind of stuck, but I hope the improvements I’ve made academic-wise will show? I’m also a rather mundane youth…

Academics
- rank 19/260ish (calculated based on freshman/sophomore grades and will change)
- unweighted up-to-date GPA: 3.80-3.83 (not too pretty?)

Courses
- freshman year: all possible advanced courses
- sophomore year: all possible honors courses with the exception of history
- junior year: all possible most rigorous courses (3 AP, 1 honors)
- senior year: all possible most rigorous courses (6 AP)
- APs: Eng Lang/Comp, US His, Physics B, Eng Lit, Calc BC, Gov Pol, Comp Sci, French, Chem

Scores
- SAT highest single-sitting: 750/690/750 (2190)
- SAT superscore: 750/750/750 (2250)
- SAT Chinese: 790
- SAT Math 2: 680 (retaking: what kind of scores should I be aiming for?)
- SAT Physics: 790

Extra-Curriculars
- (service oriented club): Publicity Chairman, VP
- French Club: VP of Cultural Events
- Israeli Club: Treasurer
- (a trivia-contest competition club)
- Played in the spring musical’s orchestra junior year (school doesn’t have a regular orchestra)

Employment
- (tutoring center): 2011-present

Community Service (I don’t really know my hours)
- (tutoring center): 2009-2011
- Library: 2011-present
- TA at children’s arts/crafts class: 2011-present

Honors/Awards (no particular order)
- NHS: junior/senior year
- Award for weighted grade 95 or above given annually: freshman-junior year
- Award for average of 85 or above: every marking period
- French National Society (if it’s actually implemented next year)
- About 10 awards from Chinese school for contests and events
- A more prestigious award given to only two other students
- Kumon Math Level J completion award (not sure if this helps. it just shows that I’ve studied “difficult and challenging” math outside of school)
- Kumon 2 year ASHR (not sure if this helps either. ahead of grade’s level of math by 2 years)
- Some certificate/award for youth art month

Strengths:
- decent SAT scores (not bad at least?)

Weaknesses:
- ECs don’t reflect an interest in engineering/technology
- have never been involved in a science fair/math club
- not many strong ECs/awards

Worries:
- 680 Math 2
- will look highly unmotivated/uninvolved/timid because I haven’t done much with my life and am not in an orchestra

Notes:
- school doesn’t have much in terms of technology. (no robotics team, classes, etc.)
- combination of lowered weightings and transition to honors classes resulted in low sophomore grades/rank
- participated in several other clubs, but they were poorly organized and didn’t interest me

Hooks:
- women in engineering
- Asian immigrant? (not that being either will help hahaha…)

Colleges:
CMU’s CIT
Olin College (not possible?)
Georgia Tech (not very interested)
Penn State
Princeton (also not possible?)
Rutgers
WPI (have to look into this school)

I was hoping someone could chance me and list some possible colleges I could look into in NE US, preferably near/in the New England area? I don’t have many people I can ask. I’ve talked with my counselor, but I’m afraid that’s it. My mom doesn’t speak English and only recognizes names such as Princeton and Harvard, and so can’t help me much in terms of college search. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
