please chance me for nu, great ec's but bad sat

3.67 weighted, 3.46 uw
unfortunately, i had a bad Sophomore year (3.4 weighted both semesters) and an improved junior year (3.8 1st semester and 4.0 weighted second semester) (a’s both semesters in ap us, but b’s in spanish and a b 1st semester in regular english)
my school has a 10 (out of 10) API score
–sat-580 cr, 580 math, 610 w (2nd attempt, i have 2-3 more)

ec’s
-i am a lead trumpet player and soloist in one of the top 7 best highschool jazz bands in the country. this band competes at essentially ellington (placed in the top 5 last year), savannah this year etc.
-I volunteer at a free clinic and have a few hundred hours of community service from it as well as good letters of rec
-I am captain of my highschool swim team (barely good enough to swim at d3 school lol)

summer

-summer after 9th grade iddylwild jaz camp
-summer after 10th stanford jazz camp and jazz residency (required audition)
-summer after 11th-grammy camp (also required audition)
-volunteered at local emergency room

i think you’ll definitely get in. i know someone who got in with a 3.3w gpa and mediocre sat scores (prob around a 1150)

i wouldnt say definitely. i know some people with much higher sat scores who didnt get in. or got waitlisted.

you have a pretty good chance if you can increase your math/CR score a little.

try the ACT and see what happens with that just in case, then send both

just have an amazing essay too, because my friend got waitlisted who was far more qualified than me (ECS and GPA- SAT was same) but my essay was a billion times better.

sick man. is that the grammy jazz band and combo? were you there this past ceremony?

grammy CAMP, btw i just got back from the reno jazz festival and won several awards

It’s always seemed like NU really like interesting ECs and good essays (geographic diversity also, but that’s out of your control), so I think that’s going to help, and your later grades are good enough that I think they’ll drown out a bad sophomore year.

But, your SAT is pretty low… get it up and I think you’ll stand a good chance, but right now your SATs, I think, make NU a reach.

whatever, i have major connections at the university of miami. It is superior academically and has a better music program, climate, girls, sports and parties.

What did you want to hear then? Even you knew that your SATs were a little on the low side, just do some practice and work to bring them up.

You’re a very well rounded student with great ECs and you’d make a fair applicant for Northeastern. NU loves kids that do different things, not just high grades. Just retake and ace your SATs to better your application (for Northeastern and for any other schools you want.)

OP: If UMiami is so superior to Northeastern in every way, they are less likely to admit you with your medocre test scores. As fior your “major connections” there, you are living in a fantasy world. With your attitude, please scratch Northeastern off your list!

You should probably take Northeastern off of your list as Tom suggested before they sucker you in to their “Co-Op” scam which he failed to mention!!

If you’re not ready to work hard for your grades and work in coop, then maybe NU’s not the right school for you (sorry to say that, but that’s what a lot of people say when they chose NU!). They like people who are hardworking and determined to succeed.

Romann: If your son is anything like you, I am glad he will not be attending Northeastern.
