applying to social sciences/humanities
lets take a shot at this:</p>
<p>3.79 GPA undergrad, 4.0 in major courses and courses related to Phd subject
3.88 graduate (terminal MA) program GPA. (4.0 in courses related to Phd subject)
309 GRE, 80th percentile verbal-159, 92nd percentile AW-5, dastardly math @ 150
graduated with departmental honors twice (as an undergraduate and grad student)
published 1 article in social sciences journal
wrote 150+ page thesis in social sciences
wrote 5 other articles for academic/cultural club on campus </p>
<p>teaching in social science subject next semester at the 100 level. </p>
<p>won government scholarship for strategic language to study abroad (completed program)
advanced proficiency in foreign language (area I want to study in)</p>
<p>presented three times this year- once at a competition, another at a school departmental event, and finally at a major conference in my field alongside other graduate students in phd programs already. </p>
<p>recs- 2 teachers from school I am interested in, the remaining one is chair on the editorial board of the field I want to go into’s major academic publication</p>
<p>me- former president of academic club on campus, senior editor of academic club, 4 publications for said club, membership in: Phi Kappa Phi, Golden Key, and Pi Lambda Theta (teachers academic honors organization), I also have membership in several different social science organizations. </p>
<p>personal statements- all are being catered to different departments, and yes they have citations and research… </p>
<p>odds? Think it is possible to apply to places like UCSD, UCI, UCLA, or even UCB?</p>
<p>((-and yes I know my GRE is somewhat low, but I took it 3x and already paid 3k in prep classes, books, and taking it. I studied 1,000+ hours, so lets not go there… I’ve always sucked at things written by ETS. oh well.))</p>
