Please chance me for second Ph.D.

Please chance me for my application to 2nd Ph.D. I want to pursue my 2nd Ph.D in Electrical Engineering. I already have Ph.D in Mathematics. I have some draw backs.
a) I really don’t know is there any university out there offering
2nd Ph.Ds.
b) My MS (Electrical Engineering) GPA is as low as 3.3
c) My age is over 40 years

Reason to do Ph.D in EE is to get involved in Academic field.

Do you really need a 2nd PhD? If you want to be in academia, why not go for a math department? Especially since you have a MS in EE, perhaps you could do applied math? If you think you’re not competitive for those positions, maybe a postdoc would be possible.

One PhD is of dubious financial and emotional sense; two seems crazy.

If you want another PhD, just apply like any other applicant- to the program. There’s no such thing as a “second” graduate degree as in “second BA” because there are so many graduate degrees and people do go back for a second one (like JD going back for the MBA, MD going back for PhD).

why not? If you’re dedicated to the cause, go for it.

It worked for Adam Cohen (though he did the two PhDs back-to-back).

It comes up surprisingly often that people with foreign Ph.Ds wish to get an American one. Some programs do not allow for second Ph.D applicants. You should specifically look at each program’s FAQ.

By the way, I do not believe you need an EE Ph.D in order to get an EE faculty position. There are several fields within EE that deal with very math-related topics (controls, DSP). In fact, the professor in one of my communication systems classes has a math Ph.D
