Your EI is (3.58 x800) + (1370) = 4234. Up until last year, a 4200+ was competitive, but last years Freshman class upped the bar. I think it will be 50/50 since the average 2018 Freshman GPA was 3.93 although your SAT score is above the average of 1264. SDSU also continues to be one of top CSU’s in # of applicants along side CSU Long Beach.
Best of luck and make sure you have at least 2 safety schools on your list.
You are within range for your SAT but as you aware, your GPA is below the 25th percentile for admitted students. Only 7.9% of enrolled students were within your GPA range. Strong personal insight essays and EC’s could help your chances but consider UCSB a Reach school especially since they do not admit by major into the College of Letters and Sciences.
UCSB admit rate for UC capped weighted GPA 3.4 to 3.79 and not major specific: 10.1%
Senior classes help with academic rigor but have no impact on your GPA at this point.
Best of luck and apply widely.
Im also out of state if that helps
Also I am Hispanic orgin and essays are good
UCs cannot take race into consideration for admissions. Also no financial aid so are you willing to pay 65,000 a year?
What is your UW GPA? For OOS the minimum UW GPA required to apply is 3.4.
APs taken senior year will not help your GPA since only 10-11 GPA is looked at. Plus you’re OOS so only AP/IB/DE classes get the extra weighting.
OOS applicants have higher admit rates for the Cal States and UC’s, however a very low matriculation rate due to the high costs with little to no financial aid.
I still think UCSB is still a Reach.
@Hamurtle im in state for CSU’s/UC’s. I think my UW GPA is around 3.66 may be higher
I have no idea how competitive “communication studies” is, but for general admissions you are all on track. I would say about 90% chance.
I’m going to say what I say to all out of state applicants: make sure it’s in reach financially.
There is some merit aid (Purple and Gold) that pays PART of the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition. You will not be eligible for much else (other than loans) as an out of state student. Make sure you can afford it. UW is great, but it can be very expensive. Seattle rent is also expensive it is hard to cut your costs significantly by living off campus.
Run the Net Price Calculator on all of your schools, but especially out of state public universities.
