First generation Filipino American and second generation Mexican American (I’ve seen people include their ethnicity on these types of forums but I don’t know how it’s relevant. I guess I’ll just include it)
Conventional public school education.
I’m going into senior year this coming school year.
I’ve taken 5 AP classes so far throughout my high school education and I plan to take 5 more in my senior year.
My accumulative GPA so far is a 3.6 and Im ranked as part of the top 100 students in my class.
• Freshman Year: Average grades. Nothing super exceptional. I took Honors classes.
• Sophomore Year: I took my first AP course and got an A in the class and a 4 on the exam. Grades were average.
• Junior Year: I took four APs and co-founded my school’s chapter of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Grades-wise I had a weighted 4.1 GPA.
Extracurriculars:
• co-founded NAMI as public representative
• Performed in Band & Colorguard and Theatre as my two performing arts
• President of National Spanish Honor Society
• Youth Leadership at my local church (community service, also)
• Yearbook editor

Ethnicity/race is not considered by the Cal States and UC’s.
First you need to calculate your CSU/UC GPA using your 10-11th grades for the a-g course requirements. You can look up your HS’s a-g courses along with which of these courses are considered UC Honors for the extra points in the calculation.

You will need to post your test scores also with your CSU/UC GPA (capped weighted).
For the Cal States, all except Cal Poly SLO admit by eligibility index and major.
Eligibility index is (CSU/UC GPA x 800) + (SAT Math + CR) or (CSU/UC GPA x200) + (ACT composite x10).
Once you have your EI, Test scores, CSU/UC GPA then come back and post this information.
AP test scores are not used in the admission decision process but taking these courses will help your GPA along with showing good HS course rigor.
with a 4.1 and decent test scores, ECs and essays you will be a competitive applicant to most programs at all the CSUs - CP SLO included.
And, for UCs, everywhere but UCB, UCLA and UCSD.
