Please chance me on some boarding schools like Choate and Exeter

I really want to go to boarding school and I want to know my chances.

I’m in 8th grade and I go to a private school in Texas, I am applying for 9th grade

Background: Half German, Half Indian. Eldest of 3 siblings

Grades: Pretty much a straight A student. I’ve gotten a few bs in my past years but none this year. Honor roll at least once every year. Taking the highest math class offer at my school (geometry), a lot of people dropped out and I am 1 of 5 girls left.

extra curriculars:
National Charity League class of 2029 president.
Student Admissions Ambassador at my school
6ish years of competitive tennis but I’ve been playing for 9 years. Made Varsity Tennis team all years eligible. Club tennis, Usta juniors.
3 years field hockey. School team for field hockey. I’m also on travel team for field hockey
Dog walking and pet sitting business
Popsicle business
School Literary Magazine Editor
Recreational Skiing I only ski on vacation

Awards:
Honor roll
President’s Volunteer Service Silver Award 94 hour of service, I was sooooo close to gold
National Charity League Best Attendance Award
National Charity League Yellow rosebud award (its a service hour award)
Random Skiing Trophy (I don’t know if that really counts for anything)

ISEE Scores: 8 out of 9 on Verbal Reasoning 92nd percentile, 8 out of 9 Mathematics Achievement 90th percentile, 8 out of 9 Quantitative Reasoning 90th percentile, 6 out of 9 Reading comprehension 69th percentile. (I am retaking the test since I was sooo close to getting 3 9s and a 7, I know my reading comprehension was really bad)

Essay: I haven’t started on my boarding school essays bc I have a lot of other schools I am applying for in my area that have closer deadlines, but I have brainstormed for them and I think they will be pretty easy for me to write.

Rec letters: I think I will get a decent English and administrative letter but I don’t know about math. My math teacher doesn’t really like me and he ignores me.

Interviews: I have had my interviews for both Exeter and Choate and I did them online. I had a little bit of trouble with my Choate one because my family got the meeting time wrong because of the time zone differences, I joined the meeting late but otherwise it went well and my interview said that she would forget that I joined late and had technical difficulties. The one for Exeter went smoothly.

I forgot to add that I went to the Choate summer program and received honors grades and that I speak English, Spanish, and German

Great resume, and definitely retake the ISEE. I had two students get in two years ago (both from the same, small class of 45 kids!), and they both had top scores on it. Other than that, I would not have said they were super remarkable. Both awesome kids who any school would be lucky to have, but not curing cancer at age 13.

Boarding schools like the ones you mentioned prefer the SSAT, not the ISEE, though I believe some will accept the latter.

Acceptance rates for Choate, Exeter and their peer schools are in the low teens, and most applicants are qualified. You sound great. However, most applicants, even wonderful kids, have low chances for admission at these places. If the schools believe you have the potential to make a difference at the varsity level of girls’ tennis, your chances would likely be a little better than average, though still not high.

Agree with the above. You are a viable candidate for any school – but there will be more strong applicants than spots available at these schools so it is impossible to chance. Much will depend on things that cannot or should not be shared on a public forum such as essays, LORs, etc.

If you truly want a boarding school experience I’d recommend you expand your application list to include some (still excellent) boarding schools with higher acceptance rates. If you would be happy attending a school in your area, then it is fine to just apply to a few elite boarding schools and see what happens.

Good luck!
