Please comment on this hypothetical schedule.

I know that some people berated me for a) Planning a schedule so early, particularly since classes change and b) Being over-achieving/optimistic, but I’m just wondering if you can comment on this schedule anyway  In particular, if you took the classes or know someone who did - how were they? Thanks :D

If you’re coming in with 53 AP credits, then why would you take 18 credits during each semester all the way through senior year? (How does anyone even accumulate 53 AP credits?) Also, are you assuming a dual business/math major or something?

P.S. I just noticed that you’re not even a student at UMD yet and you’re applying to may other schools. Why would you plan out a detailed schedule for one particular school…or are you doing this for every school? And if you are doing this for every school…well, I think there are better ways to spend your time right now.

53 is a bit excessive. I know a lot of people who came in with anywhere from 30-45, but 53 is definitely at the top. I don’t know how you would even have time for all of those classes during HS…unless OP was not in band/art/any other type of non academic activity, or took exams without actually taking the courses.

But, whatever. Certainly possible I guess.

And, it seems Euroazn is particularly interested in UMD and college so if he/she wants to get so excited, so be it :stuck_out_tongue: I think that’s great, as long as you can sustain it!

I didn’t look at the schedule though. Quite frankly that’s on you, take what seems interesting. Make sure to try to use ratemyprofessor or something because at the least you’ll see what professors have been deemed horrible.

I have a friend that takes 18 credits a semester and it seems to be her sweet spot. You might want less so that you can take on a job/internship, leadership in campus activities, or what have you, though…

I started this fall with 54 credits, (and I only spent 3 years in HS) so it IS doable. And after taking 18 credits this fall, I am really looking forward to throttling back a bit this spring.

First, I have already taken 10 AP exams +1 Subscore. I will be taking 3 more this year. And @umcp I have taken multiple years of photography and participate in an EC all but one day of the week…
Second, this **theoretical ** schedule fulfills triple degree requirements for Math (Statistics), Comp Sci, and Business (Finance) :)

And I did this for UMD because I was concerned that perhaps I wouldn’t be able to get a good education do to the whole state-school thing and all… but it looks surprisingly good.

@Plumazul, hey that’s interesting: so the advisor let you take 18 credits? I heard that they don’t let you start off with more than 16, but that’s good that they do :)

But can someone tell me about the classes though please :(

I’m still not getting how that totals 53 credits. Or are you not a senior in high school? (I’m confused about your comment regarding taking courses at UMCP right now.)

I don’t think anyone really wants to pick apart your schedule and comment on some course you may take four or five years from now. But maybe you’ll get lucky.

[Transfer Credit Center | Advanced Placement Exams (AP)](http://www.tce.umd.edu/apchart.html)
I got all 5’s on
AP Calculus BC/AB Subscore [8 Credits]
AP Computer Science A [4 Credits]
AP US Goverment [3 Credits]
AP Statistics [3 Credits]
AP Language [3 Credits]
AP World History [3 Credits]
AP Macroeconomics [3 Credits]
AP Microecomomics [3 Credits]
AP Physics C Mechanics [4 Credits]
AP Physics C Electricity & Magnetism [4 Credits]
And expect all 5’s in:
AP Chemistry [6 Credits]
AP Literature [6 Credits]
AP Psychology [3 Credits]
For a total of 53 credits. Transfer credits came from a class at a CC, and I checked it up on the UMD transfer center.

That being said, I can’t imagine why you have a problem for telling me what the good/bad courses are or suggesting a good course for me. If you do have a problem, that’s fine; can’t imagine why you’d waste the time and keep on telling me this explicitly on the forum.

Alright, I took a look at it (hopefully there’s no virus on my computer now! haha).

You are going to die your senior year. Lol. If you can I would try to take some summer/winter courses so you can take it easier senior year, simply for the fact that you’ll be interviewing for positions in the Fall, flying out to NYC and all that jazz. It’ll be stressful enough to be on the job hunt without taking your hardest classes.

Otherwise I only know about the BS (that’s ********, not the other B.S. haha) classes…freshmen and soph year look totally doable because you balance out harder classes with BS like entry level BMGT classes and COMM107 haha. But just know they are BS for everyone and don’t get discouraged 'cause they’re idiotic. Econ330 could be awesome but it really sucked for me (don’t take it with Neri, I learned nothing/it was boring). My friend liked business law but that’s another one that’s highly dependent on the professor. Otherwise I have no comments, I stayed far away from these kinds of classes during my time here…

Use Ratemyprof. Use it use it. Profs in all of the departments you’re into are sooo hit or miss and the quality of the class really depends on your prof, not the subject matter. You won’t always avoid the terrible ones because ratemyprof is underused in college and there’s a lot of turnover, especially in the business school. But do whatever you can. AND ask your advisor which profs people tend to like more than others. They should know.

But just in case no one else responds there’s my 2 cents for ya :p

Euro,

I think why you are not getting responses is because you are making up a schedule when you are not even admitted yet.

Additionally, people really don’t know you personally to say take this course or that course is not worth the weight in salt. They may love one class or one prof and you may hate it. It comes down to you personally and your learning style.

Plus, courses change, profs change, you may even change the minute you start your first classes.

Step back, and enjoy your life now, you will regret spending so much time messing with classes and schedules.

OBTW, the biggest reason people are probably not answering…YOUR advisor at UMDCP is the only one to give you the ALL CLEAR signal. Again none of us matter, it is all UMDCP.

I mean I think the biggest thing is that a class could amazing…or it could be ****…and it depends 100% on the professor.

Certain classes are “known” BS classes, like COMM107 and the like.

But when you start getting into the higher level classes it becomes less obvious how good the class is going to be until you know the professor.

I think it’s cool that you’re working out your schedule in advance, personally. Go for it, by all means. But it’s just really hard for people to comment on it, mainly because they have no idea who’s going to be teaching those classes a year from now, much less 4 years from now.

Thanks umcp, I appreciate it. Yeah, that’s what I thought too (about the BS classes… that’s why I figured I could go a little bit more than average on the number of credits)… However, I haven’t actually thought about the fact that a significant part of senior year will involve job-hunting, and that’s a great point!
