Please explain HS dances. I am lost :(

Our students are allowed to have guests from other schools at dances but must have a form filled out ahead of time, signed by their administrations (or place of business if they are graduated and not in school), and faxed back to our school. Often the administrative staff will call to get references on visitors. They must all show photo id at the door, even if a teacher had them in class 8hrs earlier. In a school as large as theirs (2500 students) this can create a hold up at the door…
Dinner is at restaurants, clubs, or pot luck.

I spend a lot of time with teens and don’t consider myself sheltered, but had never heard of ‘freak dancing’ before I read it here. I asked my son if it was ever at issue. He laughed and said no. A LOT of pda but no freak dancing.

Where we live (Illinois), the kids go out for dinner and then to prom. In the afternoon, they have Prom Premier- Each couple ( or person) is introduced and the whole town turns out to check out the outfits and see the decorated gym. Yes, our prom is held in the gym which the kids decorate. Nice small town atmosphere.

Onward, that sounds very similar to my prom (36 years ago!) in Illinois:)
