Hi, I am a raising junior getting progressively more worried/anxious about college applications. Currently, I am thinking about applying to (rough list): Barnard, Bryn Mawr, Haverford, Mount Holyoke, UPenn, Princeton, Swarthmore, Tufts, Wellesley EE, and Yale. I have visited most of the schools above, and I really like Swarthmore and Wellesley. I still have yet to visit Yale, Tufts, Princeton, and Barnard though. I would like to get chances on the above schools, but I would also love to hear other advice if you have it.
Stats:
School: Rigorous Highly Ranked Private School in Large City
GPA: (School doesn’t do traditional weighted) 4.05/4.0 (extra little bits for A+s)
Class Rank: School does not rank, but top 5 (Cum Laude inductee)
ACT: 32 (R 35, E 34, S 30, M 29) 11 Essay --> single sitting
SAT: N/A
SAT 2: Math 1, 740
School does not offer AP/IB, instead all classes are at “Honors” level but took APUSH anyway, will get results next week hoping for 4/5 (felt good about it and my teacher seems confident I should do well)
Extracurriculars: Lit Mag Editor, Yearbook Editor, Class President, Model UN VP, Student Action Team President, Admissions Ambassador, 200 hours community service, Varsity Field Hockey, Spanish Club, Peer Tutor, Job at Catering Company
Creator of Food Blog with thousands of views (more of just a hobby though)
Languages: English, German, Arabic (semi interesting family background) and Italian and Spanish in school
Awards/ Recognitions: National Spanish Exam Bronze, School English Award/ Scholarship, Scholastic Art and Writing Awards- regional (20), Cum Laude, Publication of 4 poems (2 different magazines- regional publications)
Summers: Competitive Paid internship at Hospital, Arabic Classes, Service Trip to South America (Month), Writing Camp through Scholastic Competition
Common App Essay: Growing up Mennonite in a community with a distorted view of my religion and ethnic identity
I would really like a school with strong humanities- in particular strong programs in history, political science, international relations, languages, and writing (creative).
So that is the jist of it… if you guys have any ideas of colleges I should look at PLEASE COMMENT! I CAN USE THE HONEST HELP!
Again, here is my current list of schools:
Barnard, Bryn Mawr, Haverford, Mount Holyoke, UPenn, Princeton, Swarthmore, Tufts, Wellesley, Yale
Thanks a ton! I’m hoping to try to cement a college list or at least a selection of schools to visit.
