Hi guy! First off, I’ll try to introduce myself, well I am an 18 years old student who did quite average in high school (mostly C’s and B’s). I graduated high school in the Philippines where the grading system is from K-10th grade only. I went to a local university, majoring in English Education, but dropped out after studying in the first semester and moved to Pittsburgh PA. I want to study PT in USC but with my ability right now, I am sure I won’t be accepted. I don’t know what to do with my studies… I am planning to go back to high school so that I can improve my grades and do some ECs so that my application form will be a little more appealing but I feel like it’s a waste of time to go back to 11th grade when I already graduated and have my diploma. Should I just go to a local Community College and Transfer to USC or should I just spend around 2-3 years in preparation to enroll to USC? And if possible can you guys give me some advice on what should I do? I’m just a guy who wants to turn my life around! Hope I’m not too late… Thanks a bunch guys!!

My recommendation would be to go to the local CC and then try to transfer to USC.

Get a degree that will be useful in your field of interest (which will be helpful in any case), and have back up schools to transfer to in case USC doesn’t work out. Many other schools have fine PT programs, I’m sure.

Given that you’ve completed HS, I’m not sure what you get out of that – though I suppose improving basic skills (as opposed to improving grades) could be a reason. In any event, your overall transcript would look unusual to colleges, meaning an explanation would be in order. With CC, I believe (though othes should chime in) that transfer admissions are largely based on the college grades, and that what you did in HS/SAT, etc. is much less important.

Good luck on your decision.

Thank you for your wonderful advice!! I am still in the phase of deciding but you have truly helped me look toward The CC path
Thanks again and God Bless!!

I second CC. There are many schools with PT - worry about transferring when you have a few good semesters at CC. Good luck!

I just feel like CC is the right path for me now too bad I realized how important my studies are just now
At least I feel so confident I can do my best from now on!! Thank you so much for your advice I really appreciate it!! Have a good day!!

jlee, there are many people who did not study seriously in high school but turned their lives around in cc and then on to a 4 year college followed by a fine and productive adulthood. You are just 18, so go easy on yourself for past mistakes. You will do well!

Thank you so much for the comforting words calla1
Time is so precious, I will do my best!!
